Have you seen anything? Everything I have seen is pretty poor quality. I'd like this to last forever!

I actually saw a really nice one in tkmaxx today. Could be worth a look...

Lots here on Etsy. Probably most of them are shipping from the US, so not much use to you this year unless they send it fast and you don't mind missing a couple of days. But have a look - some of them might be based in the UK!

Alternatively, if you can use a sewing machine, there are loads of printed panels (nice ones) in quilting shops at the moment to cut out and make up into calendars. You don't have to have fantastic sewing skills and they're pretty quick makes. Smile

Bought a JL one day which I have high hopes for. Am not planning on putting anything more than a folded bit of paper in each bit though which should help it last.

I think that this www.honeybeetoys.co.uk/fabric-christmas-nativity-scene-fiesta-crafts-p-240.html is the newer version of the one we have - bought nearly 10 years ago and still going very strong :)

Came on to say tkmaxx, they had lovely ones in! I've been beaten to it though!

I know this is an old post but drooling over the Maileg advent calender. Beebread, can you remember how much you paid for it in the sale, wondering if it will be worth hanging on until after Christmas in the hope that it will go in the sale as ever so pricey.

There are Maileg ones on TKMaxx at the moment, I think.

Wow Clothide, are they the garland ones?

Lots of choice on etsy

Quite a range of prices too Shock

I got mine in a local interiors shop several years ago. Somewhere like that or a Christmas craft fair might be a good place to look?

My first thought would be cold comfort crafts

I just can't see past the Maileg one but don't want to pay £75 for it. It was released in 2011 I think?? so I hope that it will be around in the sale. I think that my Dh would not be too impressed if I spent that much one an advent calender.

It was the boy and girl calendars that I saw. I wasn't really paying attention, but if they weren't the Maileg ones the were certainly very similar.

Thanks Clothide, sounds like I should check out TKMaxx.

Make one! There's still time! I bought a quilt panel specifically for making an advent calendar......pieced it, quilted it and made 24 little christmassy hangers to loop onto the 24 buttons I sewed on. (The hangers were included with the quilt panel).

Each day, DD takes a hanger down off the quilt and goes into a giant lucky dip bag that contains sweets, moshis, colouring pencils etc etc etc...

Oww Eddie, you should upload a photo of your lovely creation.

chocolate I will if I can find a picture of it! Think of a small-ish quilt, hung on the wall, with 24 red buttons as baubles on the tree and then little fabric hangy do-dads < technical term> on each button.

DD loves to choose which one to take off and then do her lucky dip. Thinking of which I need to go to Poundland soon and get the bits and pieces!!

Sounds lovely. Children love the excitement of something special that comes out each year. I bet that your children will have very fond memories of your advent calender when they grow up. How do I view the photo? Sorry, not very knowledgeable with mumsnet.

find your nearest sewing group, go in and ask someone to make you one! thats what i did, my local "creative sewing group" made 2 stockings for my ds's that will last forever and they charged me £15 each but sooooo worth it, they are beautiful!
