DD will be 8 months at Christmas - could do with some bright ideas for gifts I can be confident wont be a waste of anyones money and will be things we will be needing for her next year - PIL will want to indulge her so a combination of practical and fun would be good - seeing them this weekend and havent really got a clue!

It's definitely worth thinking ahead about things that you might get use of in the year ahead. As much as I hate to recommend annoying Vtech products, their plastic walker was a good hit and the leapfrog learn and groove table was a big hit here.

We had something similar to this wooden cube from about 12 months which is lovely.

Other ideas - bath toys, musical instruments, pop up tunnel, wooden building blocks, books or ride on toys.

Of course, some people think an 8 month old doesn't need anything at Christmas but there's no fun in that Wink

The plastic walker was 'a good buy' even!

Playskool ball popper toys. There's a few of them but we had this. Loads of fun.

Ds was 4 months last Christmas and was bought presents that he could use for the year ahead, so not really age appropriate but was great to bring out things once we thought he was ready! He ended up with tons of stuff, his favourite at the time was an elc caterpillar with different fabrics etc, he now plays with his Winnie the pooh that sings mostly.

Walkers are a good idea. (DS ended up with three Blush)

Also his smart trike gets lots of use.

8 month olds don't need presents, but then who does? I couldn't resist!

Of course I wont succumb to buying anything...Wink
Thanks so much for these - some good ideas we hadn't yet come across.. MIL arriving armed with her ideas from Argos catalogue tomorrow so good to have an idea of good options.
Have already got a couple of vetch toys .. Annoying as hell / drain batteries in no time.. but DD loves them !
Walker definitely on the list.

Keep ideas coming !

Liveinthepresent - I just bought a hideous vtech walker for DS, from Argos. He'll be 10 months at Christmas. Boxed, it's also pleasingly large so will look great under the tree, not that one thinks of these things Blush

Also doing quite a few books - nice ones that he can keep forever, and a stocking filled with noisy/shiny tat plus a few nice things - little pull-along tractor, castanets, buggy books, beanieballs, 'first' crayons etc.

TBH he'll probably like the wrapping paper just as much, as will your DD!

DS will also be 8 months at xmas, and we are getting him the brightstart bounce bounce baby. He's just getting too big for his bouncer, and I need somewhere safe to put him when I do housework etc. Other than that, just lots of books.

thanks for these! think I have too many ideas now... am at risk of getting carried away!!
steering PIL towards walker / bouncer as hopefully will last a reasonable time.
Like Lamaze things we have bought so far - Playgym has been a big success!

My ds who is 8 months old likes:-

His Fisher Price Chatterbox Phone
His Rocker - I hot a little wooden rocking horse toy, out of the charity shop for £7.50, but you can get something similar elsewhere
His Rocking Car Baby Walker - It's a Kiddicare one.....Ds just loves rocking in general!!
His toy drum - It's a Little Tikes one
His toy guitar. He has one at the moment that takes batteries, and makes a noise. It has been broken somehow, and is currently silent...I have bought him a little Tesco one, for Christmas for £6, as a replacement. He will love it Smile
His Jellycat Musical Zebra
