because we lost all of ours in our house move (I knew the attic was the worst place to put them) and am practically giddy with festive joy!

colour scheme is red, white and green. I need a fairy topper (pref wooden, Im thinking lots of natural materials and quite shabby) and all sorts!

I want my tree to look like this

Squitch Mon 26-Sep-11 11:34:16

They're lovely (bookmarked the angel) - I love shopping for Christmas decorations, but going to try and resist this year and make some new ones

OracleInaCoracle Mon 26-Sep-11 11:39:17

ive made some cinnamon salt dough decorations with ds, but the move and subsequent loss of all old decorations have given me free reign!

belgo Mon 26-Sep-11 11:41:02

I want to make a couple this year as well, better get started as they always take me so long!

Don't suppose you can go to any of the german markets? They have loads of wooden decorations there.

Squitch Mon 26-Sep-11 11:42:48

Me and my neighbours are planning a trip to Birmingham Christmas market this year (though I suspect that they have a different agenda to me as they are talking about wine bars and long lunches - they'll learn). I've never been before but really looking forward to it - has anybody been?

OracleInaCoracle Mon 26-Sep-11 11:43:35

belgo, dh is taking to the one in brum for our anniversary in november, I cant wait! look at this, I could make that for two quid!

belgo Mon 26-Sep-11 11:43:45

I went to the Birmingham one many years ago when it was just starting up.

Swap the wine bars for Gluwien and you'll have a fab time.

OracleInaCoracle Mon 26-Sep-11 11:45:41

oooh, gluwein! I love it. and hot cider with cinnamon!

<ignores dh's eye-rolling>

sounds yummy and the button garland is really nice

I'm going to have a go at this - the socks shouldnt be a problem, but i'm not so sure about the dying - never dyed anything and it's worked

reckoner Mon 26-Sep-11 11:53:50

I have just remembered I bought a black Christmas tree last year. What was I thinking? It didn't suit our decor or the decorations we already had.

OracleInaCoracle Mon 26-Sep-11 11:54:57

ooooo could I make these for the tree d'ya think?

OracleInaCoracle Mon 26-Sep-11 11:55:37

reckoner, grin are you getting a new one? what colours do you have?

OracleInaCoracle Mon 26-Sep-11 11:57:11

aaaahhhh

reckoner Mon 26-Sep-11 11:57:58

lissielou, maybe or do different decorations without a tree. We have barely room for one anyway.

girlywhirly Mon 26-Sep-11 12:08:03

lissielou, you could decorate some pine cones to hang on your tree, spray paint, or dab the tips of the ribs with glue and dab in white iridescent glitter for a frosted look. Attach fine cord or ribbon to hang them by.

Twiggy balls or stars look good too, natural or painted, you could attach little bunches of fake berries to them as well.

Tinkerisdead Mon 26-Sep-11 12:13:50

Squitch your pin board is fab i'm def gonna try to make some of these ideas.

OracleInaCoracle Mon 26-Sep-11 12:39:50

we are going pine cone hunting this weekend!

CaptainNancy Mon 26-Sep-11 13:07:10

I love decorations- I like to buy 1 new one every year, though these days the children hassle me for the ones they like! Nothing wrong with starting early, as I find really lovely things sell out very early.

OracleInaCoracle Mon 26-Sep-11 13:09:31

captainnancy, exactly!

OracleInaCoracle Mon 26-Sep-11 13:14:26

these are cute

Squitch Mon 26-Sep-11 16:18:27

I have a garland almost identical to those last ones you linked lissielou, i think i got them from John Lewis, would have been a couple of years ago.

Thanks TheDoctorsWife - I'm obsessively pinning at the moment. I doubt a fraction of what is on there I'll ever get round to making but I can dream smile
