Ordered and just received this for ds's christmas Leapfrog Interactive Globe for £39.99 and £1.50 postage (normally ~£70-£79) from the Leapfrog Store.

Was a bit worried as hadnt heard of them before and only comment I could find was on moneysupermarket.com, someone didnt recommend them, but it arrived today in perfect condition and its the British voices one smile

Also had a code in the box for £5 off £20 spend - Loyalty11

that looks good ... there are some reviews on amazon which are pretty positive for those that don't go faulty!

It's a brilliant thing - FIL bought one a good few years ago for the DSs (looks a bit different but the same thing) and it's one of those toys/gadgets that has run and run - we've used it a lot.

We love ours, it's good for any age, I taught myself geography I'd never been taught at school and nearly forgot to cook the Xmas dinner

bodiddly Thu 15-Sep-11 21:32:46

I've just ordered one ... it will be good for me to brush up on my geography at the very least!

damn i just ordered it

AuntieMonica Thu 15-Sep-11 21:33:47

it's probably 1/2 DDs christmas budget but she'll love it too!

The pen did wear out after too many years or rough use, particularly by competitive adults at drunken parties. (you have to find as many named places as possible in 2 mins). But new pens are available at a sensible price. For younger ones you can set it to ask easy questions, like 'where is africa', or just give info when you touch a certain place.

Ds has one. Got it 6 years ago and he got loads of use from it for many years and it still works fine now. I can certainly recommend it smile
It has a headphone socket too!

ooooh, I am VERY tempted...what age do we think it's best for?

did anyone manage to get OP's code to work?

SharonGless Sat 17-Sep-11 21:40:30

Had loads of recommends from friends about this. Was going to get one for Ds birthday but they were full price. Have just ordered one for Xmas. Couldn't get code to work

Lindax Sat 17-Sep-11 21:50:04

code seems to only work on full priced item on the site

ds was 7 when i got him it and he loved it. He used to take it to school at the end of term (with headphones) for several years and lots the other children were queuing up for a go. He's now 12 and we do still play with it occassionally, but not every day like it was for about 2 years (and then weekly for another year or 2 after that).
He completely thrashed his geography teacher in the end of term quiz of year 7 (secondary school)- naming as many countries as you could and correctly finding them on the map!

Yay, got one! Christmas shopping well underway!

mogs0 Tue 20-Sep-11 14:04:54

Do you think at 9, ds will be too old for this?

ja9 Tue 20-Sep-11 15:38:43

tass, i am surprised at you shopping this early!! I have however been thinking about this globe, especially as gillybean2 thinks it's good for a 7yo... and wondered if pil may like to buy it joint for dc - have you mentined it to your parents tassisssss?

tassisssss Wed 21-Sep-11 08:59:26

ja9, haven't mentioned largely as i think my mother might freak if I mention Christmas yet. I thought if I had it packed away then when she does ask I could say, how about you give this joint to all 3/the girls. Alternatively I might give it to dd1 as her "main" gift. I think it looks great!

As for shopping early, I know!!! I'm only doing this as it's a bargain and if not I'll regret it. And I have Oct deadline in head for Irish family...

AuntieMonica Thu 29-Sep-11 10:24:01

Just received the globe, and without taking it out of the packaging, it looks great, DD will love it!

I was a bit worried as it had taken quite a while to arrive but rang customer service, the woman on the end of the phone was lovely and said how they'd had a run on them they were waiting for stock - they were due in next day. Having worked in procurement i know this is often a 'line' but here it is!!

Thanks for the link to the offer, OP.

<wish there was a [star] emoticon but will use thanks instead>

mogs0 Thu 29-Sep-11 14:38:13

When did you order it? I'm waiting for one aswell but can't remember which day I ordered it.

Actually, I have 2 parcels that I missed while I was out this morning. I wonder if the globe is one of them...

AuntieMonica Thu 29-Sep-11 14:40:55

placed order late on 20th september

i've been playing with it again i've hidden it away now grin

mogs0 Thu 29-Sep-11 14:44:04

Ooh, I'm convinced now that one of my missed parcels is it! Damn, ds is off on a teacher training day tomorrow so I can't play with it until after the weekend!

mogs0 Fri 30-Sep-11 21:48:23

Mine has arrived! I had to wait for ds to go to sleep before I could have a go on it and it's fab. I hope he'll love it too but, even if he doesn't, I will!

Lindax Sat 01-Oct-11 12:14:56

glad you are both happy with it!

ours has been up in the loft since it arrived, can't wait till xmas to get it down to play with! hope our dc's love it as much as we do grin
