Looking for inspiration really. I fancy doing something quite different this year.
What do you do?

Ooo I'd love to do something very interesting this year and haven't been able to for ages cos ds was so young he'd have just been far too interested in the fancy trimmings and ornaments instead of the dinner and it would have all got wrecked but now he's 3, I am feeling very inspired!

Kirstie Allsop did a show on C4 last yr called Kirstie's Homemade Christmas and as far as I can rememeber there were lovely simple ideas on how to make your own centre peices and place mats etc for your table. I may research it on Channel4 website.

Think it depends on your taste and how many people u are having round for dinner etc. Whether you want it to be minimalist, contemporary or traditional. Not sure what to do this year yet but I better get a move on!

For our dining room I am making a centre piece consisting of frosted grapes, sprayed gold pears and pine cones and a mixture of candles... The rest of the table room is decorated with White and pale gold.

Last year I did a tartan theme, using red and green as base notes with tartan ribbons, crackers, blankets etc...

I haven't got much money so just use what bits I already have got and make the rest up to bring together in a theme.

Mine is very simple, a gold runner across the centre with gold chargers and coasters. Then we have white china and crystal wine glasses, gold crackers and serviettes. The floral arrangement changes every year, but usually incorporates some bits of holly, bay, and other foliage from our garden, and tiny battery powered fairy lights woven into it instead of candles.

If there are going to be small DC at the table, the battery lights are a lot safer than lit candles. (Or naughty cats that jump on the table!)

I bought a new tablecloth and napkins last year from Lisa Corti and shall use them again. I also use my proper silver cutlery and nice plates and glasses (but those are all relatively plain).
