If I order stuff from Amazon today will it get here by Christmas or will snow screw up delivery?

Snow forecast for later in the week (am in London). Should I risk Amazon shop or cancel visit to my dad and go Xmas shopping in real proper shops on Saturday? I have bought nothing so far so really need close family presents at very least. Don't fancy explaining no gifts to my children! However, wanted to get various stuff such as kindle for sister which is Amazon specific... What to do?

I'd go for it, our stuff has turned up in 3 days.

I wouldnt for children - relatives have bought stuff that should have been delivered early last week and they still have not arrived. I guess it depends which depot your stuff gets stuck in.
Mind you shopping on saturday could be a bit of a challenge weather wise too.

I wouldn't get kids stuff. I ordered two small books on 03/12 and they are still at the north west distribution centre....

Arrgh @snow preventing real life shopping too! Am getting nervous. Have been waiting desperately for payday so can get stuff but now feel I will be thwarted by snow whatever I do!

I ordered some stuff 2 days ago and it was delivered today - however my neighbour ordered some things a week or so ago and they haven't arrived yet. I don't know if that's coincidence or whether it means they're prioritising the new orders to save annoying too many people (even though it means they will annoy the people they've already let down more Hmm)

Oh can you, frozenchocolate? Thank you. That's handy to know (if weather permits a trip to JL!)

I've just checked, it's not available online, only in-store.

I ordered a Kindle on the 6th. Paid for expedited delivery. It was despatched today, by Royal Mail (not special delivery) and when I complained they said "we are sure it will turn up in time for Christmas". If you can get to John Lewis, I would.

That said, you are in London, much less likely to have any postal horrors, or even snow there.

Good Luck. Xmas Smile

mustdash - are they refunding the extra you paid? 9 days and ordinary mail is not 'expedited'!!

My order was held up in a RM depot last week but arrived with me on Tuesday.

Well I have three orders dispatched the 8th dec which still haven't arrived. Supposed to arrive on the 11th. I still have some shopping to do but don't think I would risk amazon now.

I did a big order last week which has partially arrived and another one yesterday which has already been despatched.

Getting a bit twitchy as more snow is forecast for the weekend and next week.

I suspect it is the Kindle that is holding up the 1st parcel. It did say it would take a week to 10 days to despatch that.

I've heard John Lewis has them so maybe brave the shops on Saturday?

i've taken the chance and done an amazon order today, this will be the final one, won't risk it beyond today. am hoping the weather forecasters are being a bit over cautious with their snow predictions! we've been forecast snow here today but it's actually quite warm and raining right now.

Well I wouldn't order on Amazon now and neither would I brave the shops in blizzards on Saturday. Run the gauntlet, go on Christmas Eve. G'wan, dare you.

I heard the researcher on R4 You and Yours who had been ringing round. Most said they could not guarantee deliveries to some parts of N E England, or any part of Scotland.

Someone from a transport company said that tomorrow is one of the last days for the online stores to have their items ready for collection from distribution centres.

His advice was to order today to give the online store a chance to collect and pack your order for sending out today or tomorrow.

I know for some things Ebuyer is quite cheap and they have been advertising that orders placed before midnight can go from their depot the same day, so it may be worth buying a few cheap bits and bobs "just in case" other things don't turn up in time.

(and no, I don't get paid by them - I'd equally mention SVC.co.uk, scan.co.uk or many other firms I have used if they offered order processing by 23:00.)

I have just had an email saying the large order I made on 8th December is now on its way, including the Kindle. Looks like I struck lucky on that one.

Of course it hasn't turned up yet......

If you are after a Kindle, John Lewis doesn't have any (unless there are a few hidden away/returned) until the new year.

I wouldn't order anything. I ordered something two days ago and "my orders" has been updated three times with new expected delivery dates. It has been dispatched and should be here tomorrow originally, but then they changed it to 22nd now it's 29th. Not impressed. And I can't cancel as it's already dispatched. Angry

I'm also still waiting for a DVD we ordered three weeks ago.

At the moment I don't think I would unless anyone knows if the guaranteed next day delivery is working.

I am awaiting a book for my brother. Ordered it a while agowith an expected delivery date of 10th Dec. Still not here.

Before the first lot fo snow Amazon were excellent - even super saver free delivery was arriving within a couple of days. At the moment it appears to be shocking.
