Leap frog tag pen

Hi, I just bought my dd a leapfrog tag pen for xmas.I also got a couple of books from Amazon which have just arrived but the picture on the books looks like the old tag pen and we have the new one. Silly question but does anyone know if the books will work with the new style pen? :-). The thing is its very difficult to get the book out of the packaging without damaging so cant really try it out.
