My DD is very keen on a magic set for Christmas. Having a look at magic sets available on internet, nothing is inspiring me totally, other than the Melissa and Doug one on amazon.co.uk?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21
Has anyonre any experience, good or bad, of the Melissa and Doug magic set or would anyone recommend another one? many thanks.

Hi

My DS got the Melissa and Doug set for his 6th birthday last month.
Would thoroughly recommend it - as with all Melissa and Doug toys, it is very good quality.
Most of the tricks he can do himself (4 yr old DS2 can also do 2/3 of them) although some of them do require help from grown-ups.
I liked the fact it was wooden and it is the kind of toy you would keep for years, and maybe pass onto grandchildren.

DS1 got this one from amazon for 5th birthday. Not tremendously robust, lots of little bits but he had a ball for about a year with it and still gets it out now. The hat & the rabbit biggest hits, the rabbit has it's own wand which is fab. Hadn't seen the Melissa and Doug one before, it does look very good but IMO you need a hat, rabbit and wand! Cape optional...

There's a nice-looking one from Letterbox.
