have just seen the TV ad.

i have no intention of making a cake but when i saw this i thought it might be fun for DH and i to make with the DC, involving much less work?!

do you think it will be an OK Xmas Cake?

I confess I did the Jane Asher one from Sainsbury's with my children last year and it came out really well.

I wondered how much it was. Much cheaper to just buy one ready made I reckon. But if you were making one from scratch I reckon it would cost more than a tenner to buy all the ingrediants anyway, but, then there would be some left over I suppose. hmmm decisions.

NSB i hadn't actually looked at the price ! but i see your point.

TDP i think that might be a good idea to buy one as per original plan - though i've not yet investigated prices!

I thought £10 was reasonable - in comparison to making your own. I just thought it might not feel like I was making a real Christmas cake. Part of it is going up and down the high street buying the ingredients and measuring it all out.

I think a tenner is quite reasonable. I bought ingredients for my cake today and the brandy alone cost 14 quid. Does the Delia set include booze too Confused

tulpe no it doesn't! fortunately have a bottle or 2 of it at home!

i've just done a quick scan on the Sainsburys website and one of their TTD cakes is £10 but i like the look of Delia's so may well go with that option.

Should be quite fun for all of us to make together - we'd wouldn't normally do something like that!

An alternative would be to make your shopping lists for cake, pudding and mincemeat together and bulk buy the ingredients in one hit. I do this and it does work out cheaper.

If the Delia doesn't include brandy etc then that is a lot for basic ingredients.

IME DCs like weighing out ingredients rather than just opening packets and it isn't that much extra work :)

The fruit is pre-soaked I think, so you only need alcohol to feed it.
