I'm looking for inspiration for Xmas.

We're lucky enough to have a large, generous extended family, who keep calling and asking what DS1 would like. we have a November birthday to get through and we already have mountains of toys

ds1's favourite books at the moment are Rattletrap Car and Tabby McTat. And I like them both too Smile
Other than that he likes various Thomas the Tank Engine board books incl one with a clock on it that is about counting and telling the time.

Anything by Julia Donaldson (Gruffalo etc.) Oddly enough, Milly Molly Mandy - I notice that the Book People have a set. Also Beano-type things keep him quiet for ages, and we don't have to read it to him - same with Where's Wally (Book People again).

This is DS2's favourite book -

www.amazon.co.uk/How-Be-Knight-David-Steer/dp/1840119284/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1289248691&sr=1-2&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

He likes anything along this line - knights, dragons, castles, pirates etc

My 4 year old DS loves:

Anything by Dr Suess
The Pigeon/Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems
Anything by Oliver Jeffers
Interactive books like the See Inside books by Usborne
Just started getting into Where's Wally?

He is still very much into picture books - havn't progressed to Chapter books with him yet.

Harry and the dinosaur books.

Although in the earlier books he doesn't have dinosaurs, they come along later.

The Octonauts books are currently favourite in our house - the illustrations are gorgeous. Other obsessions have included The Tiger Who Came to Tea, and Manfred the Baddie, which is quirky and fun.

As some earlier posters said, the Oliver Jeffers books are a big hit in our house as well as anything by Mo Willems, Julia Donaldson and Giles Andreae.

What kind of things is he into? What tv programs does he like...

I would say Winnie the witch, gruffalo, hairy mclary (and all the usual suspects go down well). Also you can get annuals such as the disney cars, pixar, horrid henry etc

My ds also loved sticker books and jigsaw books at that age (still does).

Get your complete MR men set from the book people. Much cheaper than buying them individually. My ds is 11 now and still reads his a lot.

In fact beck out the book people website for lots of ideas and you can choose an age range too when you search (and it's much cheaper than the high street), though they can sell out so don't delay if you see something you want.

My DS loves the look inside books, they'll be great as he gets older.

here

he has got look inside Space, The Ground and The body. What's great is that they can easily amuse themselves looking inside everything and don't necessarily have to be read by an adult. DS quite often fall asleep looking at it by himself.

DS loves the Little Red train series, (Benedict Blathaway), anything by Julia Donaldson, seems to like books with rythmes running through them, and I also prefer reading these!! Love buying books for them, much prefer book shopping to toy shopping.
