Playmobil Advent Calendar - which one this year?

Having had so much fun with the Playmobil police advent calendar last year I'm wondering which one to go for this year.

Any recommendations? Particularly keen to hear from MN resident Playmobil expert SoMuchToBits. Grin

I'm thinking that the Dinosaur Expedition one could be fun.

I didn't realise they did them - is it a piece of playmobil every day? how much are they and where from?

They start at about £13.99 - you can get them on Amazon or in toyshops which stock playmobil. I quite like the Father Christmas one or the fairy one. I have seen a horse and a pirate one too this year.

We had the christmassy one last year, with santa and all the animals here it's lovely but I think we paid much less for it than the current price! Have also had the one with the fairies and unicorn and the one with pirates (but actually used them as part of potty training strategies!! They're great too but not very christmassy imo - much cheaper when you buy them in April Smile)

Just to warn anyone buying them they do not come ready made! you have to assemble all the little bits yourself and put them in the relevant doors ready to be opened! it takes at least an hour but the instructions are good and I quite enjoy it Smile

We bring out the same one each year - it's a tradition (or so I tell the DC, to ward off pestering for the latest version).

Luckily for us my mum has been to Germany this month and brought back the one Freddo linked to - I think it's only that expensive on Amazon because it's only been released in Germany this year - if you wait til next yr it should be more widely available here at the normal price.

We've had the Christmas in the Forest one before and it's lovely - although you do get a lot of birds! The others aren't very Christmassy are they? Not v unisex either - I only want one for my two to share! It's worth having a look on EBay though as sometimes different ones come up on there - we had a christmassy park one last year.

In previous years we've just merged the advent calendar stuff into the rest of the playmobil collection but I'm not making that mistake this year - am going to painstakingly preserve each box, and save each tiny component to use again for future Christmases!

ps Freddo you could try this website: //www.mytoys.de which is a fab German toy website - I ordered a toy garage from them last year and it wasn't too expensive for shipping (about 5 euros I think). They have the one you like for 12.99 euros.

We had the police one last year. Fab as Ds rearranged the pieces everyday depending in what was the new piece. A development in the story every day and very funny.

I want to get another design this year that allows for equally far fetched plot development. Grin

The one I've bought for DS has all the bits in the right doors - you just need to check they haven't come loose. No assembly required :)

Which one did you get Jareth?

this one. It's brilliant :)

The box is about 35cm x 25cm and there's a fold out background. All the pieces are already in their date boxes.

That makes me a bit sad though Jareth - the annual mass production of small cardboard boxes and finding exactly the right type of bird or item of foliage to go in them (all done at 2am on 1 December) has become a beloved part of Christmas tradition for me!

aww.. I have never had the pleasure (was actually looking forward to it in a way after countless mumsnet warnings :) )

Its brilliant though, playmobil is slowly infiltrating the house and I love it :)

We have the pirate one for this year, I can't wait to assemble it. I don't know if it's still sold.

There is also a dinosaur adventure one out this year.

I'm trying to find the Halloween pumpkin containing a vampire, but I don't think it's sold anymore.

Does anyone know if the Lego advent calendars are as good?

And if you have more than one dc, do they get one each?

I Dd had the forest one last year. Would like another Christmassy one.

Got ours from German ebay (where I get a lot of our playmobil from)

I think consensus is the Lego ones aren't as good.

Report
belgo · 16/10/2010 08:28

The lego ones don't contain so much lego, certainly not enough to share.

Stick to playmobil.
