Hey everyone, I really don’t know where else to take this thread so any help advice would be greatly appreciated,, so since the beginning of November I have noticed black rice droppings, I knew straight away it was a mouse droppings. Me and my partner have sat up all night NO sign of this mouse. We have pulled apart the kitchen filled all holes that was able to squeeze a pencil through NO mouse. we have pulled all front room apart aswell as kids toy boxes NO mouse, my partner thought I was just finding black dirt and not droppings. We have closed up every gap inside and outside NO sign of a nest or anything remotely noticeable sighs 3 droppings in kitchen cupboard under sink and 5 droppings under my sofa, these droppings are appearing every couple of days but yet no other signs. Laid traps with gloves and peanut butter it totally avoids them, put poison down in baits again it avoids them. Am I going totally insane or is this little blitter extremely clever ? Any ideas I’m at my wits end now with home schooling and Christmas round the corner? Help lol x

I’ve tried that with the traps under the sofa and it was a failed method so someone told me peanuts butter 🥺 I promise I’m not going mad 😂🙈

I’ve tried the humane traps, I’ve tried the snap traps, I’ve tried the electronic traps, I’ve tried the bait traps and nothing in any traps. I’ve used peanut butter, Nutella, jam, chocolate digestives, walnuts and I’m left with nothing food nibbled, nothing been trapped, i have a fair few animals and thought if anything it would be using the animal food cupboard to collect nesting materials, food etc and the cupboard hasn’t had a single dropping in, it just doesn’t seem interested. My partner has even gone as far as cutting open my sofas and there wasn’t anything, sofas have been replaced but I’m still finding the odd droppings. 😩

I had a massive issue with mice last year. Tried every single type of trap you can imagine to get rid of them. Didn't catch a single one, they are extremely clever. I also had pest control out several times. I made sure there was no food anywhere available to them. Nothing worked. In the end I got a cat. The mice hung around a bit (I heard once they make their nest there's very little that will make them up and move!) However this year, no sign of them. I think it must be down to the cat's scent that they have decided not to make their nest under my floorboards this year I still live in fear of hearing their scratching or seeing one run across the floor!

Also, your post makes it sound like you think there is only one mouse. I'm afraid where there's one, there is almost certainly a whole family of them and they multiply QUICK.

Yes I know there is always 90% chance of a large family of them 🙈! I still haven’t seen the little buggers or found any droppings in over 48hours. They don’t scare me but can’t stand the thought of them being in my home around my children’s stuff!! Unfortunately a cat isn’t a option as if allergic to them 🙄 I have other animals but they just don’t seem to be bothered. My partner is going to work his way round the whole house the weekend and block any gap that can fit a pencil in it!! Honestly it’s just driving me mad now because people just genuinely are not believing me anymore 😩😩

I feel your pain, I really do. We had mouse droppings under the bed shudders it was awful. We ended up just ripping up the carpet and laying down laminate upstairs so we could wipe everything clean. We tried blocking up any gaps we could find but only a few days later we found new holes in another area where they had chewed their way back through. This went on for months and months! I know it sounds dramatic but I was terrified of them. I'd wake up in the night to the sound of them scuttling about. We honestly tried everything and they eventually went of their own accord (probably with help from the cat's scent) but I know this isn't an option for you. I do hope you manage to sort it out.

Thanks for advice! Can only try little buggers are smart! Next generation of mice in the making! Looked again today still no bloody evidence 😩 honestly starting to feel like a crazy lady!! Thanks again

Well after 5 weeks I’ve just met the famous Mickey Mouse brave little bugger just got up onto the sofa with me and Ds followed it round the room and it’s literally vanished infront of my eyes 😩 there are no holes now what?!

Oh that would be awful having it up on the sofa OP I am terrified of mice and had one last year which I’m not convinced is away

Luckily enough sounds daft but mice don’t bother me it’s there cousins the rats that I’m absolutely petrified of !! Pretty sure it’s a house mouse rather than a field mouse! Just disappeared! Yet once again I’ve uprooted everything without a single thing turning up now I’m puzzled and thinking it was a bloody good magic show if nothing else ! Any ideas? X

I can’t believe how brave they are, I shut it in the room with me it’s headbutted the door let out a scream and literally disappeared.... I’ve been waiting 5 weeks to see this little thing and tonight on my sons birthday it provided a magic show x

Could them be coming in through the attic? We had mice coming through from the empty house next door. Nothing in the actual house as the cat would have delivered them to us as a gift

I can't believe that it was brave enough to get up on the sofa with you!
Ours (think it's rats rather than mice) are complete cowards and go quiet when they realise that we're around.



If you're still looking for tempting bait, ours have nicked hula hoops, chocolate, mini malt loaves and cereal bars. We've learned not to leave any packets lying around on worktops or in soft bags (I had to bin my backpack because I'd packed it for work, including a stash of snacks that was supposed to last me a few weeks and the little sods had nibbled a few holes in the bag to get to the snacks).

@MerryGrinchmas1 - I know there clever little sods but seriously to literally just vanish 😳 I don’t know how they would travel from the attic but I guess with these little buggers anything is possible!!

@cariadlet - oh I knew it was brave the moment it was around the dog, house rabbit and birds but I’m so pleased after 5 weeks I’ve seen the little sod 😂 it was nice to put a name to the face! Adult size and brown pretty cute but there germs and unwanted house destroying makes them a very unwanted guest especially at Christmas time !! Lucky enough I do that anyway because my dog is a greedy git that will nick anything that smells nice 😂 just the way it climbed up on my sofa like heyyyy ! Then hid and kept popping it’s head up playing some game of hide and seek ! Ran straight into the door and literally vanished within a blink 😔 unfortunately it has scared my ds 11 and he will now most likely have nightmares and back to bed wetting.. I have tried all sorts of snacks / traps and nothing. TOUCH WOOD it seems to be happy enough atm not to be gnawing any of my stuff !

I had a mouse in a cupboard - it was eating my bird food.

I got one of these and baited it with either peanut butter or chocolate - can't quite remember now. Next morning I checked and there was the mouse. I released it outside, and it's not been back.

Borrow a Jack Russell. They're skilled to find and kill rats. Sure mice would be an easy catch as well.

Although the house and field mice look very familiar, each mouse species has distinctive features which are easy to spot with a naked eye. Some of them are:

house mice doesn’t have colour separation at the bottom of its body
most of the house mouse’s body is grey
field mice have sharp tails coloured in 2 different colours
field mice burrow under plants
the deer mice (field mice) have white bellies
each spreads different diseases – house mice are carriers of rickettsialpox and leptospirosis, while field mice are known for transmitting hantaviruses
Both mice species may cause structural damage or infections to any of your family members. To prevent this, call professional mice exterminators who’ll deal quickly and efficiently with the rodents.

Looks like your mice are hiding somewhere and coming out in the night. Make sure all your food is in plastic boxes or jars.

Thanks for information I’m still trying to trap the little buggers, unfortunately due to Christmas on the doorstep I haven’t got the funds for a pest control person In my area yet. Definitely a night party animal. I haven’t seen it since it jumped on the sofa but cleaning up after it is an absolute nightmare! It’s not bothering with any food apart from what my birds are chucking on the floor so that’s it’s food source but main signs of the droppings are around my Christmas tree no where else? Any ideas? Thanks !!! X
