We chain up the play park swings on a Sunday

No Waitrose/Asda/Amazon Prime/deliveroo

On a clear day you can see Canada (if you squint...wink)

A four bedroom house sells for £130k

No one locks their doors

There's definitely no heatwave here

dangerrabbit Sun 05-Aug-18 23:07:44

Why do you chain up the swings?

Chalady Sun 05-Aug-18 23:07:51

Are drugs rife?

WLmum Sun 05-Aug-18 23:08:54

The house price is relative - how do people earn a living?
And can I come and live there too please!

ThinkingCat Sun 05-Aug-18 23:09:15

Have you always lived there?

Clairetree1 Sun 05-Aug-18 23:09:50

whats the population where you live? do you know everybody? what are the shops like? what are the schools like? What is medical care like? do you have a swimming pool? cinema? sports clubs? have you always lived there? How often do you come to the mainland? Do you have shortages of anything? are inports expensive? is the post reliable?

GirthGrip Sun 05-Aug-18 23:09:59

Do you knit woolly jumpers

WeeM Sun 05-Aug-18 23:12:03

I love the outer Hebrides, best beaches in the world. Hoping to visit again next year smile

Funnybunnydog Sun 05-Aug-18 23:13:30

Do you feel guilty about the amount of time money and resources that has to be invested in providing emergency health care (think air ambulances etc) to you amd your fellow outer hebredians because of your decision to live there? Im not saying you should

Fredathetortoise Sun 05-Aug-18 23:15:12

I'm heading in your approximate direction later this week for work ; what's the weather like? Are the midges bad? Anything else important I should know? Ta!

Notevilstepmother Sun 05-Aug-18 23:17:00

Are you from there or did you move there?

MarthasGinYard Sun 05-Aug-18 23:17:30

Have you always lived there Op?

Notevilstepmother Sun 05-Aug-18 23:18:05

Do you chain the swings becuase it’s the sabbath? Is that a joke?

LighthouseSouth Sun 05-Aug-18 23:21:17

I've often thought that would be a fab place to live.

but would we be viewed as odd, being a mixed race couple?

donajimena Sun 05-Aug-18 23:22:59

What do you do to socialise?

FraxinusExcelsior Sun 05-Aug-18 23:26:53

What's the deal with the swings?

Loopytiles Sun 05-Aug-18 23:28:47

Yeah, what’s with the swings? Really hope it’s due to wind not religion!

How often is it sunny?

What are the people like?

BrutusMcDogface Sun 05-Aug-18 23:30:51

I'm also interested in schools up there; I wonder what it's really like to be in a school with about three other pupils?! And to teach them?

ZestyDragon Sun 05-Aug-18 23:30:54

I have friends living there and apparently the swing thing is due to religion. I thought they were joking!

WellThisIsShit Sun 05-Aug-18 23:31:02

I too am puzzled with the swings thing?! Intriguing...

MrsJayy Sun 05-Aug-18 23:34:43

I am just here for the swings I am assuming it is a presbyterian-- thing -- custom

Llamallann Sun 05-Aug-18 23:35:41

In case the OP doesn’t come back - the swings used to be like this on a Sunday because it’s the Sabbath. The Hebrides are still very heavily influenced by the church. There was outcry at the thought of a CalMac sailing on a Sunday!

(Waves from the mainland)

Notevilstepmother Sun 05-Aug-18 23:37:09

I think regardless of religion there is an argument that it’s good for people to have one day off a week, to do nothing but spend time with family.

WeeFreeWhiskyGalore Sun 05-Aug-18 23:39:45

Swings thing is because of religion. The Protestant church (in all its many forms) is very strong here and people would find it disrespectful to play or work on the Sabbath. We don't hang out washing, the shops and leisure facilities are not open p. It's very quiet here.

ThinkingCat Sun 05-Aug-18 23:40:23

Where has OP gone? sad

<goes to google life on Outer Hebrides instead>
