I’m a Manager at McDonalds 
I’ve worked for McDonalds for several years in different stores and have received personal awards for my customer service. I never initially wanted to become a manager, however with the support and encouragement of my business manager I went through the crew development programme to become one.
So... AMA?

Can I order a bun less burger, and how easy would it be to eat it.
Also, I am a real coffee snob but I find your coffee really nice .... better than Costa, Starbucks etc. What blend do you use.

I have fallen back in love with McDonalds lately. A friend whose daughter is autistic was given a job there after being rejected by so many places. McDonald’s Not only appointed her but have been patient and resourceful in terms of managing parts of the job that she honestly can’t do very well (when she’s stressed she doesn’t behave ina. Very customer focused way, let’s say!) rather than sacking her
Is it just her branch or do McDonald’s have an over arching inclusive recruitment policy?

Ragwort Absolutely! We get them occasionally, and we always place a knife and fork on the tray it in the bag to make it easy for you to eat
Also, I am a real coffee snob but I find your coffee really nice .... better than Costa, Starbucks etc. What blend do you use.
We use 100% Arabica Beans, and they’re Rainforest Alliance Certified McDonalds are very good at sourcing the best product and suppliers.
Why so I get given my milkshakes and McFlurries and then told to park up because my food isn’t ready? Can’t they wait until it’s all ready together so they don’t melt?
GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat Unfortunately I am afraid none of the stores I’ve worked in has ever been a drive-thru (except for a temporary one), so I am unsure as to why that is!

Why don't you do gluten-free buns when McDonald's in other countries do?
HugAndRoll There just isn’t the demand for it I’m afraid. However, if you bring in your own bun and ask politely, the shift manager will probably agree to toast it and dress it for you. I have done that before.

glintandglide McDonalds are great with training and recruitment; they are happy to hire anyone who wants to work. With McDonalds, it’s all about the right attitude, because training will be provided.
One of the stores I worked at had a lovely Down Syndrome lady who had worked there for years; she absolutely loved it.
McDonalds will take the time to train, and will give support and encouragement, so I’m pleased to tell you that it’s not just that branch - they really do look after their crew and will allow them to go at the pace that works for them

Why are my chips so varied in saltiness?
Getfitmumma They shouldn’t be. The same amount of salt comes out the Accusalt each time, so the problem is either under or over salting, or not salting, in which case that crew member needs correctively coaching on the station as there is a very specific procedure on how fries should be salted.
Why can't they get my fillet o fish lined up straight, comes out wonky everytime and the cheese makes it stuck like that and hard to adjust.
Like with fries, there is a gold standard for all our products and dressing should be centralised, so corrective coaching is needed to address that.
What's the money like? Is it a good career? Would you look to move?
Shortandsweet20 The money is good! The career prospects are even better. Pretty much everyone high up in McDonalds started as a regular crew member and worked their way up. It is exceptionally hard to come in at a higher level than crew because the behaviours and procedures are so specific and outlined in McDonalds, and we also have a work ethic of not asking anyone to do something we haven’t done ourselves.
I doubt I would ever move; my colleagues and my business manager are supportive and encouraging, and I love working for such a great company. I look forward to every shift
Why do mcdonalds always employ very young staff as hardly anyone is over the age of 23
BakerBear One of the reasons is flexibility, for those at college or university, but the main one is related to above: everyone pretty much starts from the bottom and works their way up.
Do you think there is a stigma attached to working at mcdonalds?
Yes, but McDonalds is trying very, very hard to change that stigma with guaranteed hours contracts, excellent employee benefits, recognition and reward schemes, and fantastic career prospects.
