How much are you worth?

achoocashew · 16/07/2018 20:30

So what? It's your parents, not yours.

How much financial assistance have they given you as an adult?

Do you live in the same size house as your friends?

Report
BlessYourCottonSocks · 16/07/2018 20:32

Has it made you a nicer person? Is it relevant to your life in any way?

What did both sets of parents do to make their money?

Report
secretrk · 16/07/2018 20:33

We're worth about £1 million

They've given us a lot of assistance. Each set of parents bought us a house so we have two properties, 1 rented out and one we live in. They've also bought us 3 cars so far between them

No, we live in a much much bigger house than anyone we know. That's the point at which it can be difficult to keep the secret

What do you and your partner do for work?

Report
WonderfulWonders · 16/07/2018 20:35

We're worth about £1 million

Well that's disappointing... I was hoping for rich kids of instagram level of wealth.

secretrk · 16/07/2018 20:36

I think keeping it a secret makes us nicer people, we don't laud our money over people and are very humble about the things we have. In terms of relevance to our lives, not having to worry about money certainly makes life much easier and more relaxed

Both our fathers had/have professional careers

Do you feel superior? Why are you so scared of people finding out? Do you worry that people might want your money? Do you think its wrong that you have so much and others have so little?

What is the point of this exactly?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 16/07/2018 20:36

Why do you need three cars?

Report
halfwitpicker · 16/07/2018 20:36

Only a million?

Meh im out.

LadyGrey66 · 16/07/2018 20:38

I think your use of the expression ‘we’re worth’ £1 million is quite telling.

How do you feel their wealth has benefitted you? Or do you feel it has hindered you at all?

Report
BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/07/2018 20:39

A million?? Boooo I was hoping big bucks.

Report
secretrk · 16/07/2018 20:39

I'm a sahm, dh works. I'm not going to say what he does but he earns a good salary

We don't currently have 3 cars, we drove 1 each, they replaced one for us last year

We don't feel superior at all, if we did I don't think we'd keep it quiet? The whole point of not telling people is so we don't get judged/comments made about it. I don't think anyone is after our money, but it's nice to fit in

Have to say I'm disappointed, in my neck of the woods 1M won't get you off the starting blocks. & money? meh. Nothing more ugly than going on about what you're worth.

This reminds me of that Harry Enfield sketch on holiday, sitting at the bar with the hotel owner... Hmm

I know someone who inherited £1million and she didn't need it so she spent wasted it on polo ponies.

Do you have charitable centres and school boarding houses / sports centres named after your family? Asking for a friend.

This is getting so bloody draining MUMSNET.
Who in their right mind would consider 1 million (inherited from parents so not even their own hard work!) to be very rich?

Report
VanillaSugar · 16/07/2018 20:43

I've got 3 cars but I could only afford two seats for one of them.

Hercules12 · 16/07/2018 20:43

1 million? Why would you tell anyone? Confused

We don't have any school boarding houses named after us. My dad has his own charitable trust
