Recovered alcoholic and heroin addict. Any question?

As title says. I have recovered from 20 year history of chaotic drug and alcohol misuse. I have now been sober and clean for 12 years. Anything anyone would like to ask?

Well done that’s a big achievement. What things helped you get clean?

Do you still have the urge to use?

And PS .... well done to you!

If you still have urges, how do you manage it and avoid re-using?

Well done. Smile

How did you first come to try heroin?

Did you hit a rock bottom or was it something else that motivated you to stop?

What gave you the push to finally quit?

And well done for your amazing achievement Star

Were you able to stop by yourself or did you need support?

What does it feel like to do heroin?

Congratulations on your 12 clean years :-). May I ask how did you fund the substance abuse please? Did you manage to stay in employment?

Did you know that it had become a problem, or did you have to be told? Were there any periods of absolute denial?

Did you wrong any of your friends or family when you were a user and, if so, have you made any attempts to right those wrongs.

By ‘wrongs’ I guess I mean things like stealing or taking advantage of people?

Why do you think you misused drugs and alcohol and how did you change that in order to quit?

BTW well done on overcoming your additions.

A domestic violence worker signposted me to my local drug and alcohol service from there I done a month long detox and 6 month funded rehab, I was very lucky to get this. Rehab was very hard, detox fine. I struggled when leaving rehab and making transition back to “life” I started doing 22 step meetings, NA and AA. Done 90 meeting in 90 days after rehab, made connections in local area. Made strong relationships with women who were clean and sober, got a sponsor and started working on the steps.

I still do one or two meetings a week to keep connected. Keep connected with other people who are sober and clean, I do step work with women new to recovery,

I do a gratitude list every morning, do a step 10 every night. (Review my day, where was I selfish, off key etc, and just keep connected) mad really. B one in my jual life knows!

Amazing!!! I'm in awe of your achievement.

  • What did you find harder to quit?
  • did you manage to successfully stop on your first attempt?
  • did you have outside help?

Not urge to use heroin but occasional urge to drink. When sat in nice pub with family and friends. I think ah that would be nice.

What do you think was more damaging to be addicted to - alcohol or heroin, and why?

And WELL DONE, massive achievement. Never been addicted myself but I know that unless you have gone through recovery, you can't know how HARD it is!

Dragons. I was In a very chaotic, violent and toxic relationship. My partner gave me some to smoke he told me it was cannabis, bam the feeling was like no other, felt amazingly relaxed, happy. All was well in the world. After around two days, cravings urge to use it again was all consuming, I would have done anything to experience that feeling again.
