Brand-new countryside retreats

In 2013, Hoseasons will launch a collection of cottage groups around the UK with shared facilities, such as swimming pools or play areas. Each cottage will sleep between two and eight people, and offer flat screen TVs, DVD players and WiFi. All the locations have nearby walking and cycling routes, plus a good local pub within a couple of miles.
Nab a January discount on self-catering holidays

If you're quick and book your holiday before the end of January, you could save money on your summer break. For instance, a self-catering break spread across three nights in Hastings, in the Combe Haven holiday park, is £186, saving you £80, based on a family of six sharing.
Otherwise, during the summer months, there's a seven-night self-catering holiday on offer in Linconshire, at Thorpe Park holiday park starting from £477 per family, saving you almost 50% off the £318 price. It includes the kids' club, family entertainment and free sports activities.

Music fan? Try out the brand new Camping Plus section at Camp Bestival this summer. Known for its great music, comedy, plus a superb children's area with dedicated kiddie activities, Camp Bestival offers you and your family dancing, yoga, 'Pimp my trolley', face-painting, circus skills etc, with special appearances from guests like Mr Tumble, The Gruffalo and Shrek.
Camping Plus offers you the option of being able to reserve a 5mx7m pitch, and a dedicated car park and entrance, perfect for a family-sized tent and all the extra kit you need.
New Lemnos resort

This year, Mark Warner is opening a new four-star resort on the Greek island of Lemnos. The resort offers accommodation on a full board plus wine basis, as well as all the usual Mark Warner activities and facilities (watersports, mountain bikes, tennis and childcare etc).
Prices start from £655pp for seven nights in May, including return BA flights from London Heathrow and resort transfers.
Early booking deal in Kos holiday village

New resort prices in Kos are very competitive, and if you book early at First Choice's newest holiday village in Greece, you could get a great deal. Its Holiday Villages are First Choice's full-on family resort hotels, and ever-popular with Mumsnetters. There are kids' clubs with activities for all ages, such as raft building, aerial adventures, football training, swimming lessons. Plus, daily and nightly entertainment and plenty of food and drink options.
Current prices for an all-inclusive seven-night stay in July start from £739 per person and include return flights and resort transfers.
Cycling holidays in Northern France

If the British cycling team in the 2012 Olympics inspired you, then check out Inn Travel's family cycling holidays in France. From March, they're offering a new break where you and your family can explore Mayenne by bike, a hidden gem of a region where Normandy, Brittany and the Loire collide.
Arrive at the hotel, pick up your bikes and kit provided by Inn Travel, which includes a map with detailed route suggestions, such as picnic spots or places to have a drink. They'll organise your luggage to be transported between hotels, so you'll arrive at your next destination, and find your suitcase in your bedroom. Manor houses, a chateau, river-life, tow paths and country lanes make this a great way to see France.

Holiday park in Cote D'Azur

Set in the glamorous region of Cote D'Azur, just alongside Port Grimaud beach, Keycamp will be opening the Holiday Marina Parc this summer. Onsite facilities include two pools, football, table tennis and badminton, plus restaurant, jacuzzi and even a hammam spa.
The nearby town of Port Grimaud, with its array of bars and gourmet restaurants, is well worth a visit, while world-renowned vineyards producing the region's famous wine are within easy reach.
Prices start from £208 per party for a seven-night break in May staying in a two-bedroom Villanova mobile home (sleeping up to four adults and two children).
Luxurious new beachfront resort

This year sees the opening of a new luxury resort in Sorgun, Turkey. Sensatori are Thomson's flagship hotels and if the current properties are anything to go by, this will be a fantastic choice for families looking for a luxury break, without a high price tag.
The brand new beachfront hotel will have five restaurants, including a traditional Turkish restaurant and fine dining options, specially zoned adults and family zones, a beachside location and spa.
Prices start from £649 per person.
Help on the safari in South Africa

Want to really give something back on your holidays this year, while still having an adventure? Active participation, or short-term volunteering, holidays in Africa are gaining in popularity, where you can join in and help out on a conservation project, while still enjoying your visit.
Particularly suitable for families with teenagers, the Kwandwe Private Game Reserve means you and your family can enjoy the nature reserve, as well as then working as a team to take part in activities like rhino and elephant tracking, camera trap set-up and inspection, and anti-poaching exercises.

Fancy doing something different? Brand-new for British Airways this year is a flight route to Sri Lanka, which will fly out of Gatwick from 14 April, three times a week, with return fares from £726.
Book a seven-night holiday at 4.5 star Heritance Ahungalla in Sri Lanka from £3,689 per family of four, based on two adults and two children sharing, for travel between 1 May and 17 July. Book by 28 February.
