Ideas to help the DC enjoy salmon?

I would simply love to hear your successes as every time I say it's salmon DD in particular looks most disappointed!

I tend to cook it fairly briefly in a hot oven and serve with rice and admittedly it's not very exciting.

Please can you tell me if anyone has a brilliant suggestion that is more exciting?

It's not exactly brilliant but I break it up after cooking and mix it into pasta or rice with peas and sweetcorn! DS prefers mixed into something rather than in 1 big piece

I use a Pioneer woman recipe for honey soy salmon. Usually I make stir fry vegetables to go with it. By far the most successful salmon recipe to get family to eat it.

thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/honey-soy-salmon/

A friend of mine brushes it with a curry paste before roasting - also nice.

Lovepancakes · 29/09/2016 14:38

sadsock that is in fact brilliant IMO- and it'll be a nice change for all of us!

And the honey and soy looks just up DDs street . Phew and thank you as my cooking getting so predictable

I just read the Pioneer recipe and it sounds yummy the way it goes sticky. I'll start with that and report back.
Thanks again!

Fry in pan, put a large dollop of Philadelphia in to melt, break up the salmon, stir through pasta with veg (often broccoli and green beans in this house).

Teriyaki with special fried rice

In a wrap, fajita style?

ON a similar theme - hairy bikers salmon with ginger and chilli is really good

Someone told me to cover it with pesto before roasting. I haven't tried it but it sounds as if it could be nice.

VioletBam · 29/09/2016 15:02

Salmon fishcakes. Mine will eat those but not as you describe. Salmon is strong and not to everyone's taste.

Leirope · 29/09/2016 15:13

A friend made it covered in pesto for me, and it was much nicer than expected. Other than that, I usually do something similar with honey and soy sauce or make what we call salmon pasta.

Fry onion and garlic, then the salmon, add green veg (we usually do samphire or spinach and peas, but it works with just the peas, or broccoli), then just cover with double cream/ creme fraiche and cook for around 5-10 mins until reduced. Stir through tagliatelle or papardelle and top with parmesan. It also works with trout.

Ooh just remembered, if you feel like splashing out, M&S do a divine Honey and Ginger salmon that I covet.

DP isn't keen on any sort of fish but he actually enjoys mine!

Salmon fillets: season with salt, pepper, paprika, crushed garlic cloves & mixed herbs, roll in beaten egg, coat in breadcrumbs (can do gluten free as healthier option) and pop them in the oven for about 30mins (ish)
Side dish depends on preference, they go with most things.

Lovepancakes · 29/09/2016 15:59

This is going to keep us going for weeks. Brilliant as my new resolution is to cook more fish (I don't like cooking it so never have, much)

We wrap fillets in pancetta and oven roast with cherry tomatoes. Serve with whatever you fancy.

Salmon fish cakes
Salmon en croute
Salmon pasta bake
Cold salmon salad
Warm salmon salad

cavkc123 · 29/09/2016 16:22

Put large flakes a creamy or tomatoes based sauce, with pasta

Spread pesto on top, cover with fresh breadcrumbs and bake until golden on top (around 20 mins)

Done on BBQ

Fresh Lime and jalapeño marinade

Stir fry with fresh veg

Salmon pieces, coated in breadcrumbs and fried ... nicer than they sound .. think if a healthy alternative to chicken nuggets

Salmon tempura ... really easy to make .. one of our favourites

My favourite is salmon fillet in a tin foil parcel topped with honey, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar and a sprinkle of brown sugar. 15 mins on about 180 - it's lovely :)

Allalonenow · 29/09/2016 16:43

Make a foil parcel add salmon, some herbs (basil is nice) a slice of lemon, a knob of butter, and a splash of white wine, bake and serve with new potatoes or stays lovely and moist if you let it go cold and have with salad.

Make a foil parcel, add salmon, a drizzle of oil, a spoon of bought sweet chilli sauce, bake and serve with buttered noodles or lemon rice.

Blondie1984 · 29/09/2016 17:56

I saw a recipe recently where you spread Philadelphia over the top of a fillet and then sprinkle over a crushed ryvita before baking in the oven - it's on my list of things to try but think it sounds like it could be quite nice...

Lovepancakes · 29/09/2016 18:14

My salmon with honey and soy was not a hit despite the great recipe- both DC left it all and complained they prefer it plain. I can't win!! But I will persevere as they normally aren't so fussy, I'm just bad at cooking fish (and at cooking in general in fact Grin)

WellTidy · 29/09/2016 18:23

I'm loving these. Thanks for starting this, OP. I have loads if salmon fillets on the freezer so I will be trying out lots of these.

GingerIvy · 29/09/2016 18:48

You can get salmon fish fingers, if you're looking to introduce the taste of salmon to them in a manner that's more familiar, then go to regular salmon. Grin That's what I did.

Another thing I do is make a bread/onion stuffing with a little lemon peel/zest in it, put it on top of the salmon and roast it.

Anad1 · 05/06/2017 11:48

Hi I have a couple of salmon recipes on my blog //www.babyledfed.weebly.com - dinner section - scroll down (tom yum salmon - Thai) and Asian style salmon. Enjoy

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/06/2017 11:54

DS loves salmon. We do these variations:

Sweet chilli sauce brushed on top

Blob of pesto, sundried tomato and slice of mozzarella stuffed into a slit on the top

Encased in a foil parcel with wedge of lemon, black pepper and dash of white wine or pernod

Sesame oil and Chinese 5 spice
