I am fortunate to live in a part of Britain that has some wonderful local delicacies, such as

Black pudding
tripe
black peas
sticky toffee pudding
butter pies.

It is my mission to sample as many varieties of regional fayre from around Britain as possible. What local delicacies do you have in your area and have you tried them?

Thank you for the links. The sausages look good and I'd like to eat a Pope Lady Cake. that link also has a wealth of information, I now want to try Bastard Sauce. I have had a Wigan Slappy only the other day but I didn't know it by that name. fascinating website, I'll be spending a lot of time reading that, thank you

Faggots where I'm from - either wrapped in bacon or covered in gravy.

Kasey86 · 08/08/2015 19:46

In Devon, we have cream tea (scones, cream &jam), amazing pasties and other bakery treats, great cider and awesome fresh produce in the village I live in.

Buttwing · 08/08/2015 19:46

Op I'm guessing you are in/ near Lancaster? I was at uni there and butter pies are just genius Grin

Owllady · 08/08/2015 19:46

Owllady · 08/08/2015 19:47

Bedfordshire Clanger, a suet crust dumpling with a savoury filling at one end and a sweet filling at the other, a main course and dessert in one package.

Haven't tried it - can't imagine what the middle bit tastes like!

WallyBantersJunkBox · 08/08/2015 19:49

Gower salt marsh lamb.
Cockles but served as a kind of tapas with Aioli known as "Crispy cockles"

Owllady · 08/08/2015 19:50

It tastes like the bus station
But it's all new and fancy now, pickle

DustWitch · 08/08/2015 19:51

In my neck of the woods:

Cockles
Eels
Whitebait
Samphire

I do love a butter pie when visiting up north OP!

Clayhead · 08/08/2015 19:52

Oatcakes...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Bleakhouse1879 · 08/08/2015 19:55

I've heard of Dorset Knobs because they do the biscuit throwing, similarly we do a black pudding throwing competition, I'd rather eat them than throw them.

Fat rascals
Curd Cheese cake

Bleakhouse1879 · 08/08/2015 20:07

DUSTWITCH Samphire is that similar to seaweed?

I'm currently residing oop North in Chorley originally from Berkshire. Tripe and black pudding took me a while to want to try but I'm so glad I did.

Bedfordshire Clanger sounds very unusual so that is definitely on my list.

Pork Scratchings: When I first moved here a lady very kindly gave me some PS to try, I fell in love with them and ate them non stop and put on about 3 stone, It was a bit unusual to eat something with so much hair on it though

agoodbook: I've just this minute been reading about Fat Rascals. They do nice.
Sometimes the name of a dish can be offputting
