What do we NEED for one night away? Trying to convince Dh on camping

I've managed to convince Dh to do one night away, not too far from home. Lovely site, known by friends etc. But he's starting to back out Iver 'equipment'. I've explained that it's only one night, we won't attempt much if any cooking etc.

What do we need? We have a tent, sleeping bags for us, blow up sleeping bag thing for ds, need to get dd something. We have an inflatable mattress. Lamp.

Thanks

Extra blankets and layers - can get cold even if weather seems good. The rest depends on what you plan to eat and how you plan to cook. I take disposable plates and cutlery. Bin bags and loo roll a good plan. Cups of some sort. Marshmallows and skewers and water.

A torch too for trips to loo in dark.

Wine, beer and crisps (or go to the pub)
Glasses
Hot dogs/rolls, croissants and jam (or go to the pub and cafe)
Pillows and duvets - I prefer them to sleeping bags
Thick socks/hats and lots of layers for nighttime (or just don't undress)

I would borrow a Jetboil or something like it so you can have a hot drink, personally. Don't forget the mugs.

Lots of blankets. I got cold in my sleeping bag and had to chuck fleece blankets over me. If he gets cold he will never want to camp again.

Get some fleexe blankets for the children to sleep on as well as for over their bags. My ds was the most toasty - he slept on an air bed and sheepskin under his duvet plus another fleece blanket and fleece PJs. This was in august!

Silver blanket (like in a first aid kit) to stop the cold seeping up, you lay it under your air mattress,
Snugly blanket each, pillow, sleeping bags
Clothes, pj's, wash bags and towels,
Wellies / crocs
Camping chairs, table to cook on, head torch, lamps
Burner or camp stove, kettle, pan, frying pan
Washing up bowl, sponge, washing up liquid, 2 tea towels
Cutlery, plastic plates, mugs, glasses
Water carrier (or large bottle of wate which you can refill)
Bottle opener, can opener, sharp knife, small chopping board,
Cool box
EHU lead
Disposable BBQ, matches,
Colouring, card games, travel games, frisbee, ball, kite.

Make something in the slow cooker like a chilli and then plug it back in when you get set up. You only have to do some boil in the bag rice then which is easy.

I think that's a pretty good list of what's in our big storage boxes.

Some fairy lights to hang in the tent - works wonders will small kids who may be scared sleeping out - also is handy for moving round at night if you need to settle a small one.......and they look really pretty Grin

We have solar ones and there's just enough light to reassure my dc if they wake during the night

Oh and hot chocolate for bedtimes - absolutely essential according to my crew!

Lots of warm stuff to sleep in, a firepit or similar, so you have something warm to sit round, oh, and lots of alcohol. Enjoy! Grin

Camping stove and utensils
Light
Washing up bowl
T towel

You need as much for one night as you do for a week equipment wise'

I don't think you need that much for one night tbh. I was completely broke when I went on the first trip under my own steam after uni and hardly had anything.

Tent, airbed, sleeping bag, pillow from home, torch (as I didn't have a lamp). I bought a campingaz stove and a gas bottle and took a huge cast iron frying pan because that was what I had at home, and a kettle.

That was it - we were away for a week and had a fab time - ate lots of omlettes!!

You can do it as simply, or otherwise as you want to. As long as you are warm and dry you will be fine.

For one night I'd take:

tent (obvs Smile )
blankets for ground inside tent
camping mats
sleeping bags
fleece blankets to wrap up in inside sleeping bags
duvets (if eves are cold)
inflating pillows
single burner stove and kettle
small firepit and grill rack for BBQ followed by fire (fires are essential when camping for me).
water carrier
cups, plates, cutlery etc

Wouldn't bother with chairs etc for one night but would use blankets on ground.
