DS is the same age as yours and his favourites are cars. He's got one of those fisher price garages and can spend ages pushing his cars around that.

Ooh he's got cars but no garage, will look into them, thank you.

Duplo is useful in so many ways - construction, colours, counting, little people, animals, vehicles, boats. And it will mix with Lego, then Technic in the future.

Do they still do the Duplo train track? Thirty years since our DS loved it.

Jigsaw puzzles, threading large beads on laces, mosaic shapes. Colouring, drawing, pretend 'writing.

And music: our DS 'played' on our Yamaha organ, and by age 4 or 5 was playing properly.

Plenty of stories and conversation. Avoid too much TV, screens etc: REAL things are best.

I have two toddlers one just over 2.5 and one 18month.

Cars. trucks. scutlebug. bricks. sand pit (that's the favourite) lilabo figures from ikea. books.

agree its real things that go down well. they could spend all day playing with gravel or compost.

My dd is 22m and loves all vehicles and her animal toot toot. She also loves having tea parties with her animals, being outside, water and sand play, drawing, building etc.
Basically everything!

My 21 month old loves her doll. She loves feeding her and making her talk on the phone. She also loves her ride on toys, anything that looks like a phone, Peppa pig small world, play doh and stickers.

If you're looking to spend a bit for a birthday say, the mini micro scooter and seat (second hand might be more affordable, loads on eBay) was a real hit with my child.

Play kitchen and tea parties here, too. Also Happy Land: we've got the fairground one and a few little shops and a train to go between the two. That keeps DD occupied for a while!

Drawing and stickers and play doh also popular. And anything that makes a noise - she likes drumming on saucepans, old ice cream tubs, the coffee table...

She's also got a couple of cuddlies who are very well looked after: she gives them breakfast, gets them ready for the day and "reads" them stories, takes them for walks and tucks them up into bed each night!
