Am I the only one that doesn't use the word 'tea'?!

Yesterday I was corrected for using the word dinner instead of tea!

Tea to me is the hot stuff in a cup which I love 😁 Dinner is dinner. Supper..what is that? Am I in the minority here that I simply say breakfast, lunch, dinner and possibly dessert.

davos · 28/07/2016 09:22

Weirdly I say

Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Kids say

Breakfast, lunch, tea.

We all know what each other means though.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/07/2016 09:22

HallowedMimic · 28/07/2016 09:22

Dinner/tea is a regional thingthing.

Dessert/pudding is a class thing.

DereksGotATail · 28/07/2016 09:22

Breakfast dinner tea. Northern if that makes a difference

dementedpixie · 28/07/2016 09:23

Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Tea is a drink and supper is a snack before bed

crystalgall · 28/07/2016 09:24

Breakfast lunch dinner. Londoner here. No Tea or Supper. Always find those terms weird on here. Especially as no one I know uses them here in London. But also not white British if that makes any difference. Is Supper posh?? No idea

Fooshufflewickbannanapants · 28/07/2016 09:25

Breakfast dinner and tea here the warm drinky stuff is a brew too. Yorkshire girl here

HippyChickMama · 28/07/2016 09:25

I say breakfast, lunch and dinner and dh says breakfast, dinner and tea. I agree op that tea is a drink and/or cake/scones.

TheresaMarie55 · 28/07/2016 09:25

I have breakfast, dinner and tea and sometimes a pudding haha. My children often have supper. To me, depending on how big their tea was, its something like porridge, a biscuit or a peice of toast. So just a little bit of something about an hour before they brush teeth and go to bed. I often have a cup of tea though to Wink

MunchMunch · 28/07/2016 09:25

jerryfudd · 28/07/2016 09:26

Breakfast, dinner, tea. Midlands

TheresaMarie55 · 28/07/2016 09:26

I'm also northern and also say a brew

Ihatechoosingnames · 28/07/2016 09:26

Breakfast, lunch, dinner or tea. I use dinner and tea interchangeably for evening meal

ShatnersBassoon · 28/07/2016 09:27

Yes, you're the only person in the known universe that calls the evening meal dinner.

It's dinner if it's eaten after 7pm, tea before then. I use both, depending what time we have it Confused. I make up my own rules. The midday meal is always lunch.

It could be worse, you could be calling it supper. That should only be used for the small meal eaten just before bed.

ButtMuncher · 28/07/2016 09:27

Breakfast Lunch Dinner. Tea is for drinking.

MIL has just confused me by saying she's bringing my nephews round after "dinner" by which she means lunch by which she means about 11am Grin

StrawberryQuik · 28/07/2016 09:27

Breakfast lunch dinner here.
If I went out for tea it'd be in the afternoon with tiny sandwiches and scones.

Anaske the first time I heard someone say brew I thought they meant soup (forrin and always lived in the south)

2nds · 28/07/2016 09:27

Breakfast lunch tea.

DonkeyOaty · 28/07/2016 09:27

Breakfast lunch supper. Except when the children were little - they had tea and us adults had supper together later (Dh worked long hours back then)

Dinner is when you go out for evening dining

macromolecule · 28/07/2016 09:28

Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Unless the main meal is in the middle of the day, like a Sunday, then that's dinner and you have tea later.

Tea is sandwiches and cakes, like an afternoon tea.

I don't drink tea.

mummytofourbabys · 28/07/2016 09:28

Tea to me a also hot stuff in a cup..

I say breakfast, dinner and supper though, from north of Scotland.

Hmm...well growing up it was breakfast, dinner and tea - but then we always had school dinners and I think even at home had a cooked meal in the middle of the day.

Now I say breakfast, lunch and dinner - but to me that means sandwich (or something light) in middle of the day and dinner in the evening is a cooked meal.

If it is a sandwich later on in the day for whatever reason, it obviously then reverts to tea :) So for me it depends on what is being consumed as much as when.

Exception to the rule is kids having a friend over, and then they are coming round for tea regardless of what is being eaten - I think it would sound odd to invite an 8yr old round for dinner!

tibbawyrots · 28/07/2016 09:28

Tea is a drink and maybe a cake, in the afternoon.

Dinner is the main meal of the day; which I serve in the evening.

Meals are breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Supper is a snack late evening.

StrawberryQuik · 28/07/2016 09:29

I called it supper for ages! (Till the other kids made fun of me)
My English tutor used it he was called Rupert
