AIBU?

AIBU to pre-order a new Dyson Hairdryer

So they are aside from stupidly expensive not even out yet, so no independent reviews, but are available for pre-order.

I already have a much loved Parlux so have no real need for a new hairdryer but --irrational self justification to follow:
--

  1. I have long and very thick hair and the "PR" for the Dyson says it reduces drying time.

  1. It's temperature controlled and as my hair is very dry then it should help with its condition

  1. It looks great in the White/Silver combo (hate the grey/pink (why do manufacturers think women actually f'ing like pink bloody appliances Confused)

  1. I'm a sucker for a gadget

Anyone else considering buying one?

If you want one, can afford one, YANBU.

I wouldn't buy, i'm bald as fucking cue ball, but when i did have hair i used a £7 Tesco hairdrier that dried my hair. I wouldn't spend any more than is necessary on a one basic job gadget. FWIW, my GF now uses my £7 hairdrier everyday and it's so far lasted since November 2011

I think I read that they're not as good for styling as Parlux types. Yes - they'll dry hair quickly, but I don't know if they'll help make it look good. sorry, maybe not a helpful response.

I also adore my Parlux.

SatansLittleHelper2 · 30/05/2016 21:06

Pink appliances ?? I havent noticed an influx Confused

Yanbu to buy it if you want it.

Yabu if you think it will be any better than a £9.99 babylis.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 30/05/2016 21:06

Intrigued to know how you can be "drying up " a Parlux Smile

The Shock £300 Shock price tag would be a deal-breaker for me. Grin but if you can afford it then why not.

Personally I think that MN HQ should be running a product test. Wink.

NicknameNotTaken · 30/05/2016 21:25

Why do people love the Parlux dryers? I need a new hairdryer and would love to justify getting a super fancy one if everyone really rates them? should just get a reasonably priced one...

I wash and dry my hair every day so if it saves significant time I would consider one. Can you buy it and report back please OP?!

abigamarone · 30/05/2016 21:34

Do Dyson still make washing machines?

EatsShitAndLeaves · 30/05/2016 21:41

Good point Abi - think those were a flop - not sure why though....goes off to google

Parlux dryers are much, much, much quicker than others.

While some models are a tad lighter, I've found the Parlux really ergonomic despite being heavier.

It's fast. I can dry (but not style), my shoulder length hair in five minutes. I can style it in 15.

I ummmed and aaaahed over the expense, but having got through countless £30ish ones, I was fed up.

Parlux has been going strong, used every other day, and for refreshes on non-wash days, for four years. I take it everywhere, there's no way I could ever face a crap dryer again.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 30/05/2016 21:50

Ok so the washing machines didn't sell due to how expensive they were. Reviews on them were good (that I have found).

Re: Parlux - you need the compact version. However they are very good quality. I used to go through hairdryers at least 2 every 18 months. My Parlux is still perfect after 3 years. It's very powerful and tbh it's the best hairdryer I've ever owned.

Ponders serious 1st world problem a bit longer and about to watch the Dyson PR blurb again....

Miele's are expensive and people buy them so I'm not sold. I wouldn't but if the money is no biggy to you and you like Dyson go for it.

gonegrey56 · 30/05/2016 22:00

I have a Parlux compact 385. I don't think it can be bettered! And it is so much cheaper than the Dyson...

caroldecker · 30/05/2016 22:02

Dyson washing machines also failed because Which said they were no better than other models at washing and damaged clothes.
They were better at washing as they uses less water, energy time and detergent, which Which ignored.
Not sure about the clothes damage.

MissDuke · 30/05/2016 22:10

Ahh I hadn't heard of these. Given how good dyson hand driers are, I bet they will be awesome! But £300??? Ouch Sad

EatsShitAndLeaves · 30/05/2016 22:12

Ok fuck it, I've pre-ordered one - in the interests of product evaluation feedback for MN and not at all because I'm a sucker - and yes I have a Miele washer and dryer -as per PP comment sighes to self....

I'll report back when I get it (end of June apparently) in the Style & Beauty Topic on how it performs vs my Parlux Compact.

If it's a good as should expect given how much it bloody cost I'll send you my Parkux if you're after one ESD - one shit to another Grin.

Sorry for all the typos above - fingers still shaking from the angst of a potentially huge purchasing mistake!!

vanillaessence04 · 30/05/2016 22:28

I bet when Dyson says faster it means faster than the non Parlux ones. Parlux are awesome, salon quality and I doubt you'll see a difference between it and a Dyson

EatsShitAndLeaves · 30/05/2016 22:40

You could well be right Vanilla - hey ho...

I'll know come end of June Grin
