Was it a big or small affair and did you have any/much financial support from parents/ family?

About 5k in 2004. Parents and pils paid just under 2k each. Me and DH paid for my dress, veil etc, our rings, the honeymoon and the hen and stag nights. Was a fairly low key wedding but we had 100 guests (big families) and 5 bridesmaids which bumped up the costs.

£12,000 and it was one of the cheaper weddings that i have been at - we are in Ireland where weddings are BIG. It was great and we didn't get into debt or struggle for it. My parents paid for the wedding dress, BM dresses, flowers and gave us £1000.00 cash - all that is included in the 12k. So in all they paid about £3000. That was very generous of them.

A few hundred quid in the late 90s. We fed twenty-five people in a nice pub after the register office.

£60 register office, plus £x meal in pub for 10 or so people. Dress, £7 Ebay (Monsoon.)

Ring £550, palladium, but that has to last.

His ring: £10 placeholder, no intention of wearing one other than on the day.

Mine is going to come in at £21,000 next year.

The ''average'' cost for a wedding these days is £25k apparently. This includes EVERYTHING including a £2k 'familymoon' as we are taking our 2 kids. We are having 100 day guests, an additional 50 evening guests, 3 men in grooms party, 2 bridesmads and 2 flowergirls.

Our parents are being extremely generous, £3,5k from my dad, £3.5k + £1k towards dress from my mum (my parents are seperated) and £3k from his parents.

20k including honeymoon and engagement party and basically everything. (I made an extensive cost list as I went along and included anything wedding related).

Was a pretty big affair (my family are big and DH has a lot of friends). Beautiful venue and 3 course dinner.

Saved up for it and I do feel it was worth it.

Oh, and our rings, about £5 each - we have stainless steel ones

£21,000 was roughly our total. we were very lucky and had a £11k contribution from family. It was a huge amount of money to spend. But one of the best days of our lives and friends and family still talk fondly of our day - they had a blast! Most of close friends that have married also spent a similar amount on their day. I only know of one couple that spend half of that, because they got married on a weekday.

Ours cost maybe £25k, including honeymoon. My dress was an unusually high proportion of that, though. We had about 60 guests in a posh restaurant all day (ceremony through evening). Fed them with goodies until their eyes bulged, paid for all their drinks, then stuck on a big mucky disco.

We married in 1998, our our home church in Canada. We had a wedding for 120, including a massive buffet, and dancing until the wee hours.
We were super lucky when it came to cost. (we were also 20 and not picky)
Dh wore a tuxedo he found 2nd hand for 20$. My dress ended up being free (a vintage 70 dress that never got worn and had been in some mother-of-the-bride's closet since). It didnt need a stich of alterations, thankfully, because we were engaged for 18 months and I was 2 months pregnant by the time we got married).
My parents paid for the reception (home made and home grown from the family farm but stunning buffet) at the village hall.
Also my grandparents made the wine, and bought the champagne as their gift. Another couple my parents were friends with provided horse and wagon to go to and from the church to the hall. Our minister was happy to do the service for free, although I know we did make a donation.
Our dj was only 300$. My in laws made/paid for the brides maids dresses and the flowers.
We borrowed my parents beat up old station wagon, (and their babysitting services for then 18 month old dd) and went for a week to our family cottage on the lake just south of Algonquin Park. We were married in September, so all the leaves were changing colours.
A lot of our families gave us money as a wedding gift, which then paid off our student loan, and paid for the gas and food for our honeymoon.
We had an aunt pay for getting some of the pictures from the wedding done up, and the are beautiful.
After factoring in things like my shoes, gifts for the bridesmaids, families and organist, tips and such, we got the whole shebang for under $2000.00.

Sorry that was so long Blush but I wanted to be clear about how we did it so fruagly.

£5k, paid for by me and DH. About 80 guests, registry office, dress from Debenhams in sale (£80), 4 kids at bridesmaids, dresses from Monsoon, rings from local jeweller.

Most of the cash went on food and on the vintage transport to get the guests from registry office to reception. Reception in a bistro/gastro pub type place, Buffet meal, no swagging on chairs, flowers on table provided by pub, cupcakes from M&S rather than a cake, couple of bottles of wine on table. Hairdresser on morning, but not fancy.

FIL paid for some more booze on the day. Didn't feel like we could ask for anything as my parents both not around any more and it was DH's second time round. They entirely funded his first wedding.

Big wedding, 75 day guests, 150 evening guests (so an extra 75) church wedding, big white gown, DJ, posh dinner and evening buffet, the works. My parents paid for everything. About 8.5k in 2001.

Ours was 5 years ago. Cost approx £16,000 in total. It was a fairly big wedding with 120 guests.
My parents gave us £4,000 which we used for the meals and DH's parents and grandmother gave us approx £2000 which went toward flowers and room dressings.
Looking back, it was a lot of money to spend. We were childless and both earning well at the time though so we could save more easily than we could now we have our mortgage and family.

Almost £5,000 in 2013. 70 guests. Lovely venue but if it had been an August Saturday they charge a lot more (would have been an extra £8,000 for us!).
My parents/PIL paid £3,000 which we hadn't expected but appreciated.
