"Just got back from 2 nights (September), my first camping…"
15-Sep-2011
Just got back from 2 nights (September), my first camping trip with just DD and I.
Toilets, sinks and showers very clean and very warm. Got a good choice on the pitch and chose the field down the end which was very sheltered.
Shop is OK, only sell fresh milk which I think is brilliant, not so brill is that it only opens at 9am.
Play area is good, lots to climb on for the children. Not massive, but it's enough.
Right by the pub which is very child friendly, so can pop in for a quick hot drink to warm up, or food.
I think we will be going back next year.Read moreLessMumsnetter mefifi

"Beware of this campsite if you have made a group…"
15-Aug-2011
Beware of this campsite if you have made a group booking. I made a booking for 2 pitches back in May for an August weekend. I specifically said to the person on the phone we would need 2 pitches next to one another ( for child care reasons mostly) and was assured we would have. When we arrived the other people in our party had inexplicably been moved to the other end of the field. 9 or 10 tents away from us. When I queried this the staff looked it up on the computer and confirmed yes this was a mistake - it had been taken as a group booking but that someone had moved it . They gave us no reason for this and only a half hearted apology. They said there was nothing they could do and would offer no discount or refund.Only after me going back to the office for a third time to complain and becoming quite angry did they offer us a bottle of wine from the shop. To be honest it was not much of a gesture considering they really disrupted our entire weekend.
In terms of the rest of the site, a great location for exploring the New Forest. However we have stayed in lots of different sites over the years and this was expensive for what it was. The girls showers of a morning time were nothing more than a dribble against the wall and there was a complete lack of plugs in the washing up sinks.
For a site that is supposedly family friendly it would have been better if the shop was open a little earlier than 9am. Not very handy if you need milk etc for breakfast . Judging by most of the campsites children, we were all up a little earlier than that!
All in all quite disappointing.Read moreLessMumsnetter RST190

"A brilliantly located site with just a cattle grid between…"

A brilliantly located site with just a cattle grid between you and the New Forest. Walks, rivers, ponies on your doorstep and a sandy beach at Highcliff just a twenty minute drive away. Although there's no children's clubs there is a small play area and plenty of space for running around. And there's a handy on-site pub for the adults. The pitches are a decent size, although it can feel a little crowded at times.
