I've been going camping to Holmsley for about 30 years. I went with my parents and grandparents and now I plan to take my 3 year old daughter this summer (if you can call it that!).
Holmsley is in the middle of the forest. There are always Ponies just outside the campsite gates and lots of room for running around and flying kites.
If you walk through the forest to the rear of the park you can find the old runways and a little stream which often attracts ponies, butterflies, frogs etc.
This sites doesn't have a club house or entertainers, just a little shop and a takeaway. The shower and toilet facilities were refurbished a couple of years ago and are really well maintained and always very clean.
This site does get very busy over the summer holidays but if you can go just outside peak season it is heaven!Read moreLess
"Homsley is a disused WW2 airfield and has over 600…"
Homsley is a disused WW2 airfield and has over 600 pitches. My idea of hell in the summer but they are open until Oct 31st and it can be glorious out of season. It is in the middle of the forest, fabulous for bikes, great facilities and really helpful staff. You can leave your car and just ramble for a weekend but it is also quite close to the coast.
Gives the kids a fantastic sense of freedom!Read moreLess
"Plenty of room to pitch in a circle with friends…"
Plenty of room to pitch in a circle with friends but ground ranged from fine to rock so there was a fair bit of tent manoeuvring. There was a no gazebo rule as it was a bank holiday and only 5 pole windbreak allowed but no-one was checking or enforcing. Clean toilets and showers with plenty of hot water. Not too busy considering it was the Royal wedding bank holiday weekend but I am not sure I would want to go back in August as there are a limited number of showers and toilets for 600 pitches.Excellent location for cycling and exploring the forest. Horribly expensive shop!Read moreLess
"Lovely camp site, lots of showers and toilets, cleaned daily.…"
Lovely camp site, lots of showers and toilets, cleaned daily. Plenty of washing up space. Playground for kids. Best part is it is on an old airfield so fantastic bike riding for children on site. Lots of tree dales for hide and seek games. People really friendly.
No reserved pitches so little choice when busy - we ended up near the old runways which was fine except the pegs would not go in!
Lovely location, evening stroll to the New Forest ponies, and gentle bike ride into the New Forest for lunch at BurleyRead moreLess

Our family have stayed on this campsite for holidays for a good 30 years now, we love it, my husbands family used to stay at Holmsley, and when we had our children we wanted them to experience the same good time feeling we had when ever we went to the New Forest. The facilities are good and alway clean. There is always hot running water no matter what time of day you need it. You can go for walks in the New Forest from the camsite and you are in a good position for exploring the local areas, such as Christchurch, Lyndhurst, Lymington and Bournemouth.Read moreLess
"This was our first camping trip and we thoroughly enjoyed…"
This was our first camping trip and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were friendly on arrival and explained everything. You are left to find your own pitch but must be 6m from anyone else. We found a nice area near a stream which our boys loved playing in. The toilets, showers and dishwashing facilities were great. There was always plenty of really hot water and were kept clean. There's an on site shop which, as you would expect, was relatively expensive but stocked pretty much everything you could need. There was also a Costa Coffee there (fantastic for that morning cappuccino!). The New Forest animals surround the site which our boys thought was fantastic. There's a Sainsburys about 10 minutes away towards Christchurch. The kids play area isn't bad - though our boys spent most of the time playing in the stream and up and down the slight slope we were on, on their bikes/scooter. It's a great area to take bikes to. All in all we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely visit again.Read moreLess
