I've been going camping to Holmsley for about 30 years. I went with my parents and grandparents and now I plan to take my 3 year old daughter this summer (if you can call it that!).
Holmsley is in the middle of the forest. There are always Ponies just outside the campsite gates and lots of room for running around and flying kites.
If you walk through the forest to the rear of the park you can find the old runways and a little stream which often attracts ponies, butterflies, frogs etc.
This sites doesn't have a club house or entertainers, just a little shop and a takeaway. The shower and toilet facilities were refurbished a couple of years ago and are really well maintained and always very clean.
This site does get very busy over the summer holidays but if you can go just outside peak season it is heaven!Read moreLess
"Homsley is a disused WW2 airfield and has over 600…"
Homsley is a disused WW2 airfield and has over 600 pitches. My idea of hell in the summer but they are open until Oct 31st and it can be glorious out of season. It is in the middle of the forest, fabulous for bikes, great facilities and really helpful staff. You can leave your car and just ramble for a weekend but it is also quite close to the coast.
Gives the kids a fantastic sense of freedom!Read moreLess
"Plenty of room to pitch in a circle with friends…"
Plenty of room to pitch in a circle with friends but ground ranged from fine to rock so there was a fair bit of tent manoeuvring. There was a no gazebo rule as it was a bank holiday and only 5 pole windbreak allowed but no-one was checking or enforcing. Clean toilets and showers with plenty of hot water. Not too busy considering it was the Royal wedding bank holiday weekend but I am not sure I would want to go back in August as there are a limited number of showers and toilets for 600 pitches.Excellent location for cycling and exploring the forest. Horribly expensive shop!Read moreLess
