"A haven of calm amidst the choas of the city…"
Ayurveda Pura was named National Spa of the year 2013, so you can imagine my excitement when I was offered chance to make a visit. Hidden between apartment blocks in North Greenwich, you'd be forgiven for walking past it completely and as I entered through the cafe, I wondered what I had got myself in for.
However, all my fears were soon forgotten as I was ushered into a treatment room and introduced to my beauty therapist.
After a short explanation of the fascinating Ayurveda philosophy, the massage began. My therapist suggested a hot oil whole body massage called Abhyanga which is said to improve lymph flow, stimulate the immune system and revitalise the body.
With long sweeping strokes I was whisked away to a state of utter relaxation and contentment as my masseuse expertly moved across my back and legs working out the tensions and pressure spots.
What makes Ayurveda's approach to massage so unique is that there is a sense of oneness to the experience. Sections of the body are not compartmentalised and treated as separate entities, instead the movement is spread out to the length of the body in a way which was at times, almost mystical.
At the end of the massage I was a different person, gone was the stress of a frantic day, instead, my mind and body was a haven of tranquillity.
Anyone looking for a bit of calm amidst the chaos of city living, should head to Ayurdiva spa. Excellent treatments, kind and professional staff and a beautiful cup of tea to top it all off, what more could you want?Read moreLess
