"A home from home…"
I was invited to go along to Hope Barton Barns to review Sumor House - a new two bedroom, self catering cottage.
All the barns and cottages at Hope Barton are owned on a share scheme - so every cottage is owned by 10 shareholders who get 5 weeks each year. Shareholders can choose to sell their weeks, and there was a good mix of people who regularly visit, and those who were visiting as a one off holiday.
We visited during half term, and there was a lot for children to do - there were halloween activities as well as a small petting zoo, a play area and a swimming pool. I went with my sister and my 6 month old nephew and he seemed to love the pool because it wasn't too cold or too busy. There's also a lot for adults too - including a bar, gym and tennis court.
The cottages are really perfectly stocked with everything you could possibly need - a washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, dvd player and towels. It really did feel like we'd picked up our own home and just moved it to Devon. There was even milk in the fridge!
For the week we stayed the weather was pretty awful - it was the week of the storms, so we didn't get to see as much of the area as we'd have liked. Hope Cove is very quiet and unspoilt, but has a really nice cafe and pub. I have been to Hope Cove before and in nice weather it is a great beach. We also spent a day in Salcombe which has a great selection of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants.
