"A pleasant family-and-pet-friendly base to base yourself if you're visiting the Lakes…"
The Windemere Marina Village, as the name suggests overlooks a pleasant marina with the fells stretching out beyond, on the edge of the town of Bowness on Windemere. The cottages are newly built but with traditional stone and are high spec with lots of equipment that make self catering easy. There's a easy access to a leisure club and spa as well as a friendly bar and restaurant on site. But the real reason to stay here is to venture further and see the countryside - with all the amazing walks and scenery the Lake District offers a short distance away.

They welcome pets here, which is just as well because one of the main reason we visited was to take our Patterdale terriers to Patterdale - which on the edge of beautiful Ullswater. Take the ferry out and walk back along the shoreline - it's a pleasant walk which a 7+ can manage fine.

(Incidentally my other top tip for a more demanding and out of the well fell to conquer is Yewbarrow - it's truly a stunning climb.)

More information about Windemere Marina Village:

Windermere Marina Village is a family-owned, self-catering holiday resort and marina in the heart of the Lake District.
