"Gorgeous baby-friendly cottages…"
We stayed in Porthcothan for a long weekend in September with our five month old and had a wonderful time. The cottage was really comfortable and spacious, and felt more like a luxury hotel in many ways than a self-catering property. It was really comfortable for all of us and the setting was beautiful - we loved that it was just a short walk down to the beach, which is just gorgeous. It's a great position from which to explore more of Cornwall, though we also just enjoyed being able to hole up and be cosy. We'll definitely be back once she's older as I can imagine it's even better with older children who can run around outside and enjoy seeing all the animals.Read moreLess
"Fantastic cottage, beautiful location, great for whole family.…"
Ordinarily for us packing the car for a long weekend away means negotiating with the car exactly how we squeeze all the clothes, Trunkie, cot, buggy, toys and snacks in with enough space for the humans. Packing to go to Merlin Cottages this negotiation was not needed, in fact I had the pleasure of asking my 3 and 1 yo what extra toys they would like to take.
Constantine provides all the necessities for a family with young children, all the practical things like a buggy, cot, monitor and cutlery but also fun things like a box of toys and horses, geese, chickens and a donkey grazing outside your front door.
It is a pleasure to stay at Merlin Cottages, the house is situated 2 mins drive from the beach (20 minutes by foot and make sure you reserve some energy for the return leg uphill!) with beautiful views and every luxury within the cottage. The cottage is a great size for a family, our children loved the open space of the living room and the bathroom was a joy for us all, truly a luxury space. The fact that Lucy and Darrel have fitted the entire cottage with such high quality materials is a treat and really quite unusual for a ‘family’ accommodation.
We visited Merlin Cottages in early September and had a mix of glorious sunshine and pouring rain, the house accommodated both brilliantly. The log burner in the centre of the house I was keen to try (with a mug of hot chocolate or two) but it never needed lighting as the house holds the heat so well. Conversely when the sun shone and we wanted some cool air, the doors opened and extended the space to enjoy.
The cottages are located a short drive from Newquay airport, in fact you can watch the planes landing and taking off whilst sitting on the sofa, however we drove from West Essex and realistically though it is probably doable without a car we would have struggled – particularly when the children are exhausted from playing on the beach. The cottages are also pet friendly and the family in the cottage next to us had brought their Labrador, which was just as welcome as the rest of us and most people on the beach had a dog or two so definitely a pet friendly area.
All in all a wonderful weekend away and we could have happily stayed a week longer. I thoroughly recommend a holiday at Merlin cottages, whatever age you and your children are (did I mention the wetsuits and body boards provided?) just be prepared to come home wishing you could take the bathroom with you.Read moreLess

"A great place, with or without children…"
I stayed here with my husband and two children (age 3 and 12 months) last June. The location of Merlin Farm is great, easy access to the beach by car which you need with small children. We did the walk from the farm once but only for an ice cream. If your children were older it would be fine.
We stayed in Trevone Cottage and were really comfortable and loved the space on one level as my daughter was crawling.
It was super clean and finished to a high standard.
All the baby gear was provided too.
We enjoyed it so much that we've booked to go again in the Spring.
Would highly recommend.Read moreLess

"Gorgeously stylish hideaway…"
The farm is beautifully situated for the beach and the Eco cottages are as stylish as anyone could wish. In fact, I found myself taking endless pictures and asking Lucy where she'd bought everything! We've stayed twice - pre and post baby - and had a wonderful stay each time. All the baby kit was provided too. Highly recommend.Read moreLess
"Funky 5 star farm !…"
Great all rounder, as parents we were able to chill in the luxurious interior of the Eco Cottage overlooking tranquil countryside, the kids loved feeding the farm's donkey who comes up to the fence opposite the cottages, there is a little play area and only 15 minutes walk to a beautiful sandy beach (Mawgan Porth). We were close to all the best restaurants (I.e Fifteen, Rick Steins) and we went on some great walks direct from the farm. There were more fabulous beaches nearby, you could visit a different one every day ! We would thoroughly recommend Merlin farm, we stayed in Constantine which supplies all the necessary baby gear, but all the cottages look lovely !Read moreLess
