"Truly wonderful place to get away and relax with your family…"
06-Jan-2013
Just returned from a truly wonderful week in The Smithy at Three Gates Farm. We are a family of 5 (three children aged 6,4 and 1.5) from Surrey and we choose Three Gates Farm for a New Year week to get away from the hustle and bustle of suburbia. Everything about Three Gates Farm has been carefully thought out to make it so easy if you are travelling with children of all ages but it works especially well for young children. It's a very easy, safe place to stay. All the little details and extras make it by far the best self catering cottage we've stayed in. The indoor heated swimming pool is superb, clean and very warm. It made a huge difference being able to use the pool whenever we felt like it. The children loved every minute of their swimming time.
There is a fantastic children's play area with a trampoline, see-saw and swing/slide set which overlooks the chickens and ducks. Jonathan, Lynn and Ellie-May made us feel so very welcome and the children loved the egg-collecting opportunities.
The cottages are so well equipped there was nothing we missed. The kitchens had everything we needed and the fact that the major supermarkets deliver there too is a must! All the bedroom and bathrooms were superb and very comfy beds!
The nearby village of Bampton is a short drive away and offers good pubs and small supermarket and Tiverton is a 15 minute drive away offering all the main essentials. We can also recommend The Butterleigh Inn in Butterleigh for lunch. Superb!
A truly great part of Devon to visit and you couldn't ask for better hosts in Jonathan, Lynn and Ellie-May. We are booked to return during April!Read moreLessMumsnetter SHNewton

"Fantastic place to go and relax and unwind and let the kids have fun!…"

We have been going to Three Gates for over 12 years now and go at least once a year, we absolutely love it. It has everything, brilliant accommodation, fantastic swimming pool, gym, sauna, games room etc. etc. I could go on and on! Owners are very welcoming and have done loads of work recently which makes the place even better! In a lovely secluded location but only a short drive to pubs and shops etc. Highly recommend, extremely good value for lovely accommodation and facilities, you all must go!

"Superb holiday accomodation…"
23-Nov-2012
We have been to Three Gates Farm repeatedly over the last two years and loved it. The accomodation is brilliant - friendly, clean and spacious. The facilities are perfect for all ages, our 3 and half year old loves the pool, play area and feeding the chickens. Views are to die for. Lynn & Jonathan are perfect hosts. Have booked for next year already.

"Great family destination with indoor pool, gym, and sauna, as well as outdoor play area…"

An all weather holiday destination set in a very tranquil part of Huntsham.
We went there on holiday mid-July, and had a mixed bag of weather but had plenty to do in the local vicinity near to Exmoor as well as on site, for us and the children. I would highly recommend it as a holiday destination for families, I have two very active girls 3 year old and a 1 year old and they loved it so much they didn't want to go home, and neither did we. ;-( We will definitely be planning a trip back to Three Gates Farm.Read moreLessMumsnetter BisiO

"Wonderful cottages, lovely playground, amazing views, and with agreat indoor pool!…"

This place had everything for us. We have two boys, 3 and a half and one and a half.
The pool was used daily and we always had it to ourselves! We also used the swim teacher who is available and she was fantastic with the children, they came on loads in such a short time, book her before you go there so that you don't miss out!
There is also a sauna and a small gym with running machine, stepper, rower and some weights.
The cottage was well equipped and extremely clean. The windows in our cottage had pulldown blinds as well as curtains so the rooms could be made nice and dark for the kids.
The children loved the play area and trampoline and also loved feeding the ducks. We had eggs from the chickens too!
All very lovely and not forgetting to mention that there was a complimentary tea waiting for us on arrival of clotted cream, jam and scones - delicious!
There is lots to do in the surrounding areas and beaches are only 40 mins drive away (perfect for the kids nap times in the car). We went on a beautiful bike ride down the canal to a pub with great local ale, tasty food and a big play area in the garden. Great day out.
The Swan Inn up the road did us an amazing evening meal and we would recommend that without hesitation (I would give it 5 stars and we've eaten in some nice places)!
Jonathan and Lynn who run Three Gates Farm are always more than happy to help with your questions and are also happy to give advice. A really lovely couple.Read moreLessMumsnetter SenniP

"Perfect location for families…"
08-Aug-2012
We were very happy indeed with our holiday at Three Gates Farm and are going back next year. Lovely accommodation which stayed cool for our 9month old baby during the hottest week this year! Good baby facilities with cot, highchair and baby-safe crockery. Lovely pool and a very nice play area just metres away from the cottage and the countryside views are stunning. This is the holiday for you if you want peace and quiet in the country with good old-fashioned fun for the kids (not so much if your little ones want more electrically powered activities!). Lots of places to visit though to keep them happy with the cottage making a great base from which to explore Devon.

"excellent family friendly family run cottage complex…"

Set in lovely countryside but only 15 mins drive to nearest big town and m5. We stayed in the granary which was a cosy two bedroom detached house. Swimming pool 30 seconds walk away, was practically private as we rarely shared it. Warm enough for 2 year old and 6 year old just loved fooling about without a lifeguard blowing a whistle! Onsite play area was good, swings, trampoline, slide, see saw. Passed time here after dinner several times. Also have chickens and ducks which we got to feed too. Loads to do nearby, our first visit to Devon but definitely not our last.
