  "not recommended - avoid…" 23-Apr-2013 We went on a short break after a recent illness and, based on other reviews thought the Eco Lodge Tree House would be a lovely, cosy experience in the country. How wrong we were! We were so cold (despite the website advertising central heating - which we found no evidence of), and when we complained we were simply issued with another tiny electric heater. After a miserable night barricaded in, wearing our hats, scarves, duvet and blanket we checked out two nights early, unable to cope with the snowy wind blowing in and the icy temperatures! It took us 12 emails, 5 weeks and a lot of stress to get a refund for our remaining nights. To add insult to the situation Ian (the owner) charged us for cancelling the original cheque that he (supposedly) sent. The owners were rude, unprofessional and unreasonable - avoid this place if you are looking for good hospitality and a comforting break.   "TOP MARKS!…" 21-Jan-2013 I saw the write up in The Guardian. Although the article was very complimentary it still didn't do it justice. We stayed in the EAST lodge.   "Lots of space and wonderful walks in lovely countryside.…" 12-Mar-2012 Lots of space and wonderful walks in lovely countryside. The highlight was the falconry experience (with Stephen) at the farm, made all the more beautiful by the stunning backdrop of the grounds.   "Thank you Penny & Ian for your wonderful hospitality. Thank…" 10-Feb-2012 Thank you Penny & Ian for your wonderful hospitality. Thank you also to Kit (the chef) who prepared an AMAZING dinner. The whole family had a wonderful time but my husband & I had the pleasure of staying in one of the new tree houses... WOW! As a travel journalsit I have stayed in hotels all over the world and the tree houses are out of this world. I can't believe they are on my door step! Next time we'll take the offer of on site activities. Penny & Ian have clearly worked hard and invested their life savings in to Fairoaks Farm... and it shows.   "We stayed at Fair Oak in low season for a…" 10-Feb-2012 We stayed at Fair Oak in low season for a mid-week break. Fantastic value. The accommodation far exceeded expectations. It was spotless and very spacious. We also had a go at the archery whcih although cold on the day was amazing fun. The booking process was pefect and Penny & Ian were really, realy helpful. In fact the reason for writing this review is because we saw the review by 'witch6' (probably says it all) and wanted to report that if we could score customer care it would be 11 out of 10. We really enjoyed our celebration (50th). The farm, it's location, the accommodation and service were all spot on. Some of our group have rebooked.   "Essentially, as a large group we rented the group of…" 11-Jan-2012 Essentially, as a large group we rented the group of properties - to find they were not as seen on the website. Dirty- worn-out grubby carpet, horrible bathrooms with cracks in the ceiling, broken light fittings and split bath panelling. Cobwebs all over, dead insects in the light fittings and in picture frames. Non-working microwave. Overflowing rubbish bins on our arrival. Despite complaining, the owner did nothing and then has been very offhand in dealing with our complaints. Do not stay here! Read more Less Was this review helpful?
