Calke Abbey

I agree - this is a great place for a day out. The grounds are perfect for running around/playing frisbee/picnics. Go on one of their games days in the summer when they get out lots of toys for children to play with. and yes, the playground is a bonus.

I love this place. It is easily the most interesting National Trust property. There is plenty of space for the children to run around outside (even a nice wooden adventure playground), the house is fascinating (and there are lots of weird things for the children to look at and go "Eerrr what is that?") and the grounds are beautiful. And there is a National Trust tearoom, hurray!
