Just wanted to add a review of this great cottage to mumsnet as it was very child friendly and the hosts were really lovely. We visited with our three children aged almost 7, almost 4 and a 6 month old baby.
We booked through airbnb but its also on tripadvisor to book.
We drove via the eurotunnel, its less than 2 hours from Calais. The house is in a little village just outside Bruges, around 10 minutes drive. Its very secluded, next to fields with horses, sheep and chickens. The owners live next door if you need anything, otherwise if you don't its totally private. They gave us fresh eggs when we knocked to speak to them about something. The house is full of toys in every nook and cranny, there was a highchair, baby bath, steo and stair gate. Linda had even printed some colouring sheets for my girls. One word of warning was that the stair gate is at the top to stop a child coming down, but no stair gate at the bottom to stop a baby climbing up, however this wasn't a problem for us. Georges did ask us when we left if there was any improvement needed for children and that was the only thing I could think of, it aouldnt be easy to fit a stair gate to the bottom because of the desigh of the stairs but maybe they will try because of the feedback given.
Also the bedrooms are on a mezzanine floor, with a balcony down to the ground floor (totally safe but not sound proof) so sound travels from the lounge area, not a problem for us as ours are deep sleepers but if you had light sleepers it might not be great...... Unless you visit in summer and sit outside in the lovely garden and use the hot tub.
We spent three nights there and spent a day in Bruges (horse drawn carriage, climb to the top of the Belfry tower, boat on the canals), but you could easily spend 2 or 3 days there. We drove about 20 minutes to the beaches north of Bruges one day, where the kids had great play areas on the clean sandy beaches and played in the sand dunes. We also travelled slightly further afield (50 mins) to the WWI museum nr Ypres (Passendale memorial museum, trenches reconstruction, suitable for all ages). Would really recommend as a holiday, we also drove 1 hour 50 minutes to stay at the Efteling theme park for a few days which I will review separately but also great.
