"If you have small children and want to really relax, this is absolutely the place for you!…"
We stayed for a week - and wish we could have made it 2 - Wendy, Chris, Ben and Thomas made us feel absolutely welcome and the gite (ours was called 'Papillons') was perfect for our 2 yr old and 11 month old. It was our first trip abroad with them, and we were suitably nervous parents, but we really shouldn't have been. Wendy has thought of absolutely everything, so we didn't need to bring the usual 'family-with-babies' paraphernalia, and the sand-pit, pirate ship, toddler pool and trampoline were brilliant for our kids.
Travel wise, we flew to La Rochelle, which was great and only 1h 30 from Manchester (great first flight for a 2 year old), but fellow guests drove and seemed to find it just as convenient.
I'm not one to usually write reviews, but the sheer perfect suitability of this as a first trip abroad with our family, and the excellent time we all had definitely warrants a proper 'thank you' to Wendy & her family, indelibly etched into the fabric of review sites.
If you like down-to-earth, endearing hosts, in an environment where your children will be not only safe, but also constantly entertained, then this is the place for you - watch out for Chris' sparkling Cognac though - it creeps up on you like a sledge-hammer!Read moreLess
"Excellent for families with young children…"
Our family of 2 adults & 2 children (aged 6 & 3) have thoroughly enjoyed our first fortnight here & are looking forward to returning next year.
This property is well thought out & ideal for families with younger children. The gites are contained within a safe, gated garden which gives children the opportunity to "play out" with their new friends while the adults have the chance to read a book or share a glass of wine with the other guests.
The setting is beautiful surrounded by fields & vineyards with local markets, parks & mini boats within half an hour. The Royan coast, Ile de Rey & Coulon each about an hours drive for longer days out.
Chris & Wendy and their sons make wonderful hosts & make everyone feel very welcome. The weekly communal BBQ with long tables & dinner together outside is a lovely touch.
Highly recommnded for a relaxed, chilled out holiday. Must go now the pool party is about to begin!Read moreLess
"The most relaxed I feel all year!…"
Second year at La Grange Du Moulin and we are already booked for 2015. It's such a lovely, friendly and relaxing way to spend a week or two.
Today is a great example: Trip to the seafood market first thing to choose a crab and some fish for dinner and now the boys are playing with their new friends whilst we enjoy the sunshine and take the cover off the pool ready for a dip. Pottery painting, kids pool party with Thomas and Benjamin's homemade cake and lemonade, plus a teddy bears picnic this afternoon for anyone that's around.
Plenty of wine and good conversation to be had every evening if you're feeling sociable and the coast isn't far if the beach beckons. I
La Rochelle and Ile de Re both worth a day trip or a second week of the trip.
Wendy, Chris, Ben and Thomas are brilliant hosts and I hope they are truly proud of what they've created here. We absolutely love being here and will be gutted to go on Saturday...Read moreLess

"The Holy Grail for family friendly holidays!!…"
We loved it ! The holiday lived up to every expectation we had - fantastic pools for our daughter to gain confidence in, lovely play area to explore, A truly lovely family holiday we never thought possible with a 3 year old ! Great for socialising but also having your own personal space, every thing you could think of has been catered for, great entertainment for kids and adults, if you wish to join in, without any pressure or great cost.
Worth noting that they are in a rural location, so a bit rugged and come with expected countryside guests - ants, bugs spiders etc. didn't bother us though and didn't seem to faze anyone else there!
The gites are perfect, the views astounding and Chris and Wendy truly make the holiday. We're signed up for next year ..Read moreLess
"Amazing spot for both kids and adults…"
We just spent another lovely week at La grange du Moulin . We have three boys aged 5 , 3 and 15 months and they all absolutely love this place! The garden is so safe that they can be given the freedom to run, play and explore with the other kids without us having to follow them around. From the seats outside our gite they were rarely out of sight and never out of earshot. The pool is gated and alarmed so we didn't have to worry about them wandering too close to it . As far as I'm concerned, happy kids equates to happy and relaxed parents!
The gites are well equipped with everything you need with small kids. Wendy will gladly provide anything extra you might need. There are shutters on the windows and as a result the kids always sleep in a bit later in the morning here. Probably also due to exhaustion from all the running and playing outside all day long.
There's lots to see and do in the area and there are fun activities for adults and children alike onsite during the week put on by the lovely hosts Wendy and Chris. The local food , wine and Pineau must be sampled while here. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend La Grange to anyone with small kids. I'm just sorry we didn't discover this little gem sooner!Read moreLess
"Great spot for young children…"
If you have young children and you're anything like my family, you'll know that from cock-crow to sun down it can be relentless. A family holiday in the sun is years away in the distance and moving away from your well established routine at home seems like sheer fantasy, yes? Well no, it seems not! For a toddler friendly family holiday, look no further than La Grange du Moulin.
We are a family of four with two young children aged 25 months and 9 months. La Grange du Moulin was recommended to us by family who returned with us this year and we all shared the 4 bedroomed gite "Peche"
The gite was well appointed with stair gates, cots, guards for the bed, and there are buggies, baby baths, potties etc. and plenty of toys to borrow - all the stuff that you don't want to waste valuable boot space on. Added Bonus: more space for wine
Outside the gite is a fabulous garden with grass lawn, swings, slides, trampoline, sandpit, plenty of garden toys and a wooden pirate ship. The perimeter of the property is toddler proof, so we could let our daughter out to play all day and watch over her from the comfort of the terrace, without the usual fear that she'll somehow escape onto a road.
Our children had never been swimming before so the heated baby pool was perfect for the first outing, and we ended up in there for hours every day. There's also a big pool and loungers for the adults, and, to enable you to unwind fully, there's an alarm in the pool should any child wander off or be able to scale the 6 foot perimeter wall & fence.
We had lovely weather and the kids enjoyed it with plenty of sun cream, hats etc and there were plenty of shaded areas around the garden where you could sit on a bench and put the baby on a blanket to play. We had no heat / sun related problems for nap time as the rooms had fans and shutters to keep out the light.
We didn't go on many excursions as the weather was great and the kids' nap time would have made it tricky, but we were happy to hang around the garden and pool most days. Very relaxing.
As wine lovers, we really appreciated the chilled bottle of local wine in the fridge to welcome us on arrival. Chris, our host, was a fountain of knowledge on the locality and on wine in general and shared his knowledge and contents if his wine cellar freely.
We'd definitely come back again, and I'd recommend anyone with kids under 10 to check the place out.Read moreLess
"Fantastic place for a family holiday…"
This is our second year at la grange du moulin and we are certainly not disappointed we returned. We love the rustic gites set in beautiful countryside with plenty on site to keep the little ones entertained. Open your front door and your kids can play with other children in the sandpit, lawn or trampoline whilst you enjoy a relaxed glass of wine. Heaven!Read moreLess
"FABULOUS! IF YOU HAVE YOUNG KIDS THIS IS A HOLIDAY FOR YOU TOO!…"
What a fantastic place to stay with young children! We went with our 2 year old daughter and on previous holidays where we just hired a normal gite, we had to stay in every night watching DVDs. We tried other family resorts, but their kids clubs mean that younger children end up staying up late, and so they’re then miserable for the rest of the holiday. At Grange Du Moulin you can put the kids to bed at their usual time and then socialise with the other parents, having a BBQ or a glass of wine right outside the row of 6 gites, sitting in the evening sunshine. Wendy and Chris are great hosts and give you all sorts of information. In the evenings they hold a BBQ every week, as well as a wine/pate /cheese tasting session and then you can also do a proper wine-tasting course in the garden, while your kids sleep safely. Wendy is a qualified child-minder and baby sat for us twice – what a luxury to go out for a proper meal! She also runs a crèche and a teddy-bears picnic each week. Loads to do around the area and plenty for the younger kids to enjoy. Wendy and Chris provide loads of information, and as their house is only a few hundred yards away, are always on hand if you need to ask anything. We rarely visit the same place twice, but we had such a great time, we have already booked up to go again this year.Read moreLess
"Brilliant find for parents with young children!…"
Another great stay here with Chris and Wendy with their wonderful hospitality, good company and excellent site. The kids love it here year after year as the set up is perfect for their ages with a safe, fun garden, a wide selection of toys and activities that they enjoy including fabric painting and even scuba diving. A combination of time by the coast, visits to beautiful nearby towns and simply chilling by the gites made this the perfect week away again. Thank you !Read moreLess
"BOOK EARLY ...GREAT VALUE & RELAXING HOLIDAY FOR ALL THE FAMILY…"
Spent our 4th Summer holiday at La Grange du Moulin.
Why do we keep coming back ?
Wendy and Chris - excellent hosts, on hand if needed, knowledgeable and clearly very good at providing fun family holidays; Great communal atmosphere - bbq night enables you to continue the adult conversations started in the garden; secure enclosed garden; Great selection of well used play equipment and toys, keeps kids of all ages happy; Relaxed atmosphere - as the gites are finished in a rustic style it does not matter too much if after playing in the sandpit the kids run in and bring the sand too !; Location - easily accessible from the ferry ports, lots of activities within 1 hr, bike rides, pool and lovely walks right here !Read moreLess
"We actually managed to relax on holiday with 3 kids in tow!…"
We stayed here in September 2012, this was the second time staying at La Grange du Moulin and yet again we all had a fantastic time. In 2012 we stayed for 2wks giving us (the adults) time to unwind and the kids plenty of time to enjoy the numerous activities on site. Perfect for pre- schoolers as most of the schools had gone back when we were there, (our children were aged 4, 2 and 4 months at the time of our last visit) . They made plenty of friends and we got to relax in the evenings making friends with the like minded parents staying in the surrounding gites. Wendy and Chris are very helpful and friendly... Wendy is also a qualified babysitter so my husband and I got to go out one evening 'sans enfants'!! Great location to stay in for seeing fab sites and enjoying great family activities, markets, the fab zoo, caves, La Rochelle and surrounding islands. There is plenty on-site too with plenty of outdoor toys for the kids, the swimming pool, the teddy bear picnic, the t-shirt painting, (we came away with 5 t-shirts) and the ceramic painting and diving classes for the older kids... Chris will even take you on a tour of the local vineyard! I remember being pregnant with my second child when I booked here for the first time. It was a moment of desperation when I said to my husband we need to go on a family holiday where the kids will have fun and can play safely... La Grange Du Moulin kept coming up so we went for it, and I'm super happy we did - great memories!!!Read moreLess

"Perfect for a holiday with small children…"
We had a lovely time at the Grange du Moulin. The garden full of play equipment and toys is great, the pools are clean and safe, Chris and Wendy are friendly, but not pushy, hosts, their boys were lovely, our fellow guests were really nice, and there is plenty to do in the local area to keep a family entertained for a couple of weeks. It's not luxurious, but it was comfortable and had everything that a family with small children need, which really saved on packing. Weather was a bit mixed, as it's been everywhere lately, but I would definitely recommend La Grange du Moulin if you like the sound of a relaxing time in the French countryside.Read moreLess
"We have spent 3 very happy summers at La Grange…"
We have spent 3 very happy summers at La Grange du Moulin as guests of the charming Wendy, Chris, Thomas and Benjamin. Perfectly set up for families, Grange du Moulin's main features include a wonderful (and secure) swimming pool, a smaller heated pool for babies and toddlers, and the added bonus of a big garden, complete with pirate ship, sandpit and toys which is directly in front of all the gites. We spent many a happy evening sipping a glass of local vino, watching our boys (now 8 and 4), making friends and having a total ball. Chris and Wendy make a huge amount of effort for their guests with wine walks, wine tastings and fabulous seafood BBQs for guests to enjoy. Beautiful beaches are about 45 minutes away and we enjoyed wonderful day trips to La Rochelle, Saintes, Cognac and the Ile D'Oleron. Both my boys have become avid lovers of seafood because of our trips to La Grange and we have incredibly happy memories of our French vacances....!Read moreLess

"La Grange du Moulin has been our holiday destination for…"
La Grange du Moulin has been our holiday destination for the last three years, with two young children in tow! It is far and away the best holiday we've found, and have thoroughly loved every moment. Chris and Wendy gave us the warmest welcome, and were always around to give us advice and help - from plasters to where to eat and what to drink! It definitely felt like a home from home with excellent facilities and the most peaceful, relaxed atmosphere. I cannot recommend it highly enough, a true gem of a place.Read moreLess

"This place is heaven for young children and therefore for…"
This place is heaven for young children and therefore for us too ! With a 2.5 yr and 1 yr old, going on holiday is (though wonderful) a bit fraught and approached with some trepidation. Wendy and Chris however, enabled us to have the most fun, relaxed and carefree holiday we have ever had with the children. Everything has been thought of, is provided and is made easy. And at the same time we got to enjoy the picturesque and beautiful, rustic French countryside, wine and food and unique ambience of La Grange du Moulin. Several people we met here were repeat visitors which shows how much people rate it and I will definitely be recommending this place to all my friends with pre schoolers (though on second thoughts, maybe I shouldn't or we'll never manage to book in again !) The trampoline, sand pit, pirate ship, swimming pool (heated) and toddler pool made La Grange du Moulin perfect for our toddlers (our 2 yr old - ''I love our holiday place'') and best of all it's all safely enclosed so we can relax. It's not luxury but we didn't expect or want that and again makes the cottages much more suitable for little ones. Loved all the info on activities and the area, which was all useful and also the vine walk, wine tasting, teddy bears picnic and bbq all of which was sociable without being obtrusive. Loved it 10/10, 5*, thank you so much, see you next year !Read moreLess

We've just come back from our third great holiday at La Grange Du Moulin. We've never returned to the same place for a holiday before, so the fact we've been back so many times speaks volumes! Wendy and Chris (and Benjamin and Thomas!) are the perfect hosts and make everyone feel very welcome. Our three children, now aged 9, 5 and 3 always have a fantastic time. Set in a beautiful countryside location with two pools and a play area for the kids it's the perfect place for a relaxing holiday.Read moreLess

''Excellent holiday. Before even arriving I had received excellent emails from Wendy and Chris letting us know what was available at the cottage, this was invaluable when travelling with a 9 month old and 5 year old. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by Wendy and Chris. Everything we could think of for children was provided, even a travel cot and play duvet downstairs - fantastic ! Our daughter has never been so happy and confident wanting to play in the garden and pool for almost 12 hours a day. The cottage and garden were completely safe and secure allowing Mummy and Daddy some time to read !! Some days out but mostly relaxing around pool and cottage as the children loved it. The perfect family holiday - Thank you - See you next year !''Read moreLess

"We have just booked our 4th holiday to La Moulin…"
We have just booked our 4th holiday to La Moulin du Grange for 2012 as we have had such amazing experiences there in the past 3 years. This year we visited in June and we all made some amazing friends. Our 4 year old and 1 year old had great fun playing with the other children and in the garden with all the toys and play equipment. The large heated swimming pool was great for adult swimming and messing around with our 4 year old. The 1 year old loved the heated toddler pool, splashing around with his brother and his friends. We still have loads to see & do in the area and we think of our holiday as going back to see friends, as Chris, Wendy and the boys are so friendly and welcoming. The social element of the holiday is what makes it so special and why we keep wanting to go back. Roll on next year!Read moreLess
