"Great kiddy friendly holiday 5 star!…"
Totally relaxing experience for Mum and Dad, kids had a ball - lots to do!
We really enjoyed exploring the area. We can really recommend Aubeterre, just 15 mins away lovely cafes, gift shops, and a brilliant river beach.
Chateau de Gurat is a lovely place to stay, beautiful grounds, lots to do for the kids, welcoming friendly hosts.Read moreLess
"Nice place, room for improvement…"
Our experience here illustrates the problem of staying somewhere where the owners are also in residence.
As a family group of 7 - 1 toddler, 2 grandparents, 4 adults, we were happy to be left to our own devices, but as the owners are also living there we felt rather like we were under their watchful eye. There are quite a lot of rules - e.g. you are not allowed to use the washing machine on a Friday, or the pool before 9:30am or after 6:30pm. One of our party was reprimanded after his son was caught playing with a toy digger in the sandpit – apparently not allowed.
What made it annoying was the owners’ disregard for their own rules. In the week we were there the owner allowed his dog to crap on the floor in the children's play barn, and his teenage children to have a late night party by the pool, keeping us awake until 1:30am.
The owners also closed the pool (without warning or apology) for two days at the end of our holiday (coincidentally the day after their daughter's late night pool party, although they said it was not linked.)
We felt somewhat 'nickel and dimed' as there are a lot of small charges once you're there. 2 Euros for 30 minutes internet, 5 Euros per electric fan, paying to hire both bath towels and pool towels, and so on. The overall cost of these is secondary, it just seems a bit cheap and rather spoils the luxury cottage vibe they are obviously going for
On the positive side, the buildings are pretty from the outside and fine inside, and the location is extremely peaceful and remote. There is not much to do nearby though, without driving at least 45 minutes, so bear that in mind if visiting.Read moreLess
"Great setting, lovely hosts…"
We went at the start of June this year. Really lovely setting as others have said.
I was nervous about traveling for the 1st time with our DD, I shouldn't have worried as the flight was really easy and all the baby equipment we had asked to borrow was waiting for us in the cottage.
David and Nicki were really great hosts, nothing seemed too much trouble and they made us feel very much like friends who had come to visit.
Weather was excellent, hot but not too hot so we had to keep DD in the shade all the time.
The paddling pool was a huge hit, lovely and warm!
One negative is that the village is quite small and sleepy, and although there is an excellent supermarket about 5 mins away, you will need a car to get around.Read moreLess

"Great for families and toddlers :-)…"
Just booked again for this year!
We stayed last spring in the Rose cottage – had a great time can’t recommend enough. I really liked that there were other families there with pre-schoolers for mine to play with.
The cottage we stayed in had window locks as well as bars on the outside of the window, I think they all do.Read moreLess

"Great place for a family holiday…"
There are lot of child-friendly accommodation mostly on http://www.babyfriendlybolthole
s.co.uk and http://www.familytripfinder.com of course no matter how child-friendly a place is you will always need to check your little ones. Yes it would be a good idea if they have window locks!Read moreLess
"Our most successful holiday ever!…"
We went to Chateau de Gurat this summer following a recommendation from a friend at playgroup.
Simply stunning setting in unspoilt France, with all of the cottages nestled near to the Chateau.
Fantastic safe facilities for our little toddler, we could allow him that little bit of freedom that he seems to have been craving of late (read - running off!)
Lots to do for little ones and adults alike, lovely heated pool and a paddling pool.
Excellent hosts, really enjoyed the wine tasting and pizza evenings, being able to get some quality grown up time in the evenings was a unexpected and refreshing change.
Thoroughly recommended.Read moreLess

"Ideal for families with young kids!…"
We went to Chateau de Gurat for the 3rd time this June - it's absolutely perfect for us and our 4 yr old twins. Beautiful safe setting, lovely accommodation and masses to keep the little ones happy. What we like is that all of the families have similar aged kids as they specialise in toddler holidays – so lots of playmates for our 2
All of the (free) loan baby equipment was a real benefit – you should see the list on their web-site! Unlike the OP we found that the towel hire was actually really convenient – just 10 euros for me and our 2 little ones for the fortnight, much better than lugging yet another suitcase and giving more money to Mr Ryanair.
Meals are delicious and a great idea if you want to take a night off from cooking.Read moreLess

"Lovely place to stay, a few drawbacks…"
Gorgeous setting with lots to do for the children. Accommodation fine, but lacking some basic safety for small children e.g. no window locks on first floor full-length windows, no stair gate upstairs. There are a lot of additional costs when you arrive which you would not normally expect to pay for self catering e.g.40 euros for towels, 35 euros to have gite cleaned at end of stay, 5 euros to rent a fan (in 35oC+ temperatures!). Home made meals delicious. Lovely area with lots to do.Read moreLess
"Lovely place and great for kids - pool, animals, outside…"
Lovely place and great for kids - pool, animals, outside play areas with swings slides etc, play barn with toys and videos. If you want relaxation then this is it - no tv in your gite though and quite remote so you def need a car just to get shopping. A lovely week had by all.Read moreLess
