"Perfect family holiday in a stunning setting!…"
02-Sep-2012
We stayed at Alsagra for two weeks in August 2012 and had a fantastic time. The location is just superb with gorgeous view across the Umbrian countryside. The apartments are well equipped and each has a private terrace. The pool is wonderful, v clean and warm, again with amazing views. As well as the pool there is plenty to keep children happy, with goats, two play areas (including a zip wire! and a great gyspy caravan. Our two children (aged 5 and 7) loved it, and we had a lovely holiday doing a mix of exploring the local area (lots of beautiful towns and villages nearby) and spending lots of time at the pool.
Steve and Helen were the perfect hosts, and put a great deal of thought into everything, e.g. great restaurant recommendations with easy to follow directions, delicious home made freezer meals if you didn't fancy cooking etc. The pizza evening was lots of fun and a great way to meet the other families. Our children had great fun playing with the other children (including Steve and Helen's own son and daughter), which meant that we could relax - bliss!
All in all, very highly recommended! It would also be great for families with younger children as just about everything you could need for babies and toddlers is provided.Read moreLess2 people found this review helpful.

"So well organised and things to do everywhere. and a ZIP Wire on site!!…"
19-Aug-2012
We got such a warm welcome from the family and everything was perfect in the apartment - it was actually bigger than the photos show. After 5 minutes the children were in the pool (which is amazing) and we could not get them out for an hour. The only reason we suceeded was so the promise of playing on a zip wire (yes there is one here) and the gypsy caravan. After a relaxed (and boozy) pizza making we made great friends with the other families which meant the children got to know each other and we did not have to entertain them for a week (apart from meal and bed times!!!) There is a great water park about 30 minutes away with 3 slides and a restaurant, good for a day trip. We went to the lake nearby and had fun in the pelalos and building sand castles. It truely is a great place and really family friendly place to go and somewhere not to be missed if you love Italy.

"Perfection in a family holiday and italian ice cream every day!…"

We're not usually repeat visitors to one place, but Alsagra just has so much going for it, we can't keep away. Just booked again for a week in October! Helen and Steve are constantly tripping off with their children Poppy and Michele to search out brilliant ideas for trips out and activities to keep the kids entertained. Being so close to Perugia and transport links to Florence and Rome, Alsagra is a perfect location. You can have savour the peace and quiet of the Umbrian countryside sitting by the pool or hop in your car and be in the centre of Perugia in 30 mins watching the Jazz festival or Chocolate Festival if you pick the right week! Florence and Rome are do-able as (long) day trips by train. Lake Trasimeno has plenty of sand for sand castles and the pool is a few steps from your apartment. The addition of the gypsy caravan was new for us this time........ Steve never stops working on new ways to improve the holiday experience. It really is becoming a "home from home". If you want a night out, Helen has babysitting contacts and I recommend the restaurant in Spello (40 min drive) which is in a vaulted cellar and serves very typical Umbrian food. You can't go wrong with a week at Alsagra!

We had a fantastic week in Alsagra, renting the largest apartment which was on the ground floor, all on one level. The setup was perfect for us and the boys loved the pool, playgrounds, pizza making evening and especially the zip wire!

"Family-friendly self-catering in stunning location…"

This was our first foreign holiday with our three-year-old and we had a really lovely time at Alsagra. The owner Helen couldn't be more welcoming and helpful, they had everything we needed in terms of kit and I was amazed to see all that would have been available for babies had we been braver earlier!

07-Jun-2012
A fantastic holiday for our little family. Exceptionally spacious, clean and very well equipped accommodation. Welcoming hosts who responded very quickly to any questions we had. Lots of toys in accommodation and play areas on site. Enough to do in the local area to keep us occupied. Oh, and the view is amazing!

"Truely exciting place for all of us…"
06-Jun-2012
We loved it here and recommend it to anyone who has space in their calender and is looking for a great holiday in Italy with kids. The pool had just been opened and it was already mid 20 degrees - it seems it is heated which was great. We had wonderful trips to the beach and restaurants which were good with families all recommended by the owners. The only problem was that there is so much to do at Alsagra we struggled to get our children to leave. The kids club was great and we got them to look after charlie and sue whilst we did a cooking class. We have already enquired for next year. Cannot recommend highly enough to anyone- make sure you go to experience italy at its best

There is nowhere in Italy that has such a wonderful atmosphere and so well equipped as Alsagra. We have returned again and yet again Helen and Steve have added more fun for the children. After our last visit there is now a short Zip wire for kids (unfortunately we could not use it as it is only for kids - maybe next year they'll get one for adults) and Steve has built a wonderful gypsy caravan for kids to play in. Tons of actvities to go at. It really is a stunning place to go.

Everyrhing and more.... We had looked at the reviews of Alsagra before we booked and had hoped for good things however we were still pleasantly suprised. Literally everything that we needed was either provided or available. We had shopping for us when we arrived, a wonderful homemade meal after our long journey and to top it all some of the great local wine. We stayed for 7 days and we have never had such a good holiday with young children. We have already booked for 2012 as it was all so easy and Helen and Steve great hosts who added to the family atmosphere.

04-Aug-2011
Wow, we had everything we needed to keep our children amused for 2 weeks. There were two other apartments with children and for hours they played together so that we could read and relax whilst still being in listening distance. Great great place to go I would totally recommend it to anyone with family (of all ages).

"We never thought we would find somewhere that had all…"
11-Nov-2010
We never thought we would find somewhere that had all the things we needed on a self catering holiday but everything was here when we needed it. This was our first holiday abroad with young children so we were very nervous about not being able to take all the toys and equipment that we usually take in the car but everything we needed was here. Steve and Helen were great from the start, very responsive to our initial enquiry and made sure that before we left the uk everything we had asked for was correct. After 2 days we could not get the kids out of the pool and when they werent there they were playing with the goats or in the play areas on site. Pizza evening was wonderful and we all made the BEST pizzas ever. If you want somewhere that is home from home and so relaxed I cannot recommend it highly enough.

"Just spent a fantastic week in the best child friendly…"
12-Oct-2010
Just spent a fantastic week in the best child friendly apartment I have ever stayed in. The journey from Rome is very straightforward if a bit long at 2 hours, but our 3 yr old fell asleep. Apparently Pisa is shorter and just as easy. Helen and Steve have absolutely everything you could ever need for your small kids in the apartment or available free or for a small charge. Given we were potty training the use of the washing machine for a small fee was ideal. The surrounding hills are truly an "area of outstanding natural beauty" and the road trips to Gubbio, Orvieto and Asissi are all easy yet full of spectacular scenery. Helen and Steve recommended brilliant restaurants where the kids could just run around and no-one bothered. The play area was really great and so too were Helen and Steve's children who loved playing with the guests children. The weather was too autumny to use the pool but it looks great and safe for kids. What with the views, the hosts and the local wine I can't fault this holiday location.

This place is great. Helen & Steve have kids of their own running around so are well tuned into the needs of parents. The pool is safe (with stunning views) & gated off. The apartments are well stocked with plastic, toys & books. There are the goats to feed, pizzas to make & two great little play areas, all within 2 minutes from your door. Great set-up

03-Jun-2010
Really great place! Family run farmhouse tastefully and carefully converted into 3 self-catering apartments. INCREDIBLY family friendly without being schmaltzy, loud or over-commercial. There are 2 simple playgrounds onsite, a pool, and child-amenities (plastic tableware, cot, high chair etc.) in each apartment. We even borrowed their buggy while we were there! There was talk of them getting goats as well... more fun for the kiddies. Lovely location.... mmm, Umbria... lovely helpful hosts. Tons of medieval towns nearby for exploring (LOVED Gubbio). Only complaint was that the pool wasn't yet available for use for our April visit. Otherwise, 10 out of 10!

We stayed at Alsagra for 6 weeks from September 2009, our daughter was 11 months old at the time. We had a fantastic holiday.
A really stunning location and a comfortable and very baby friendly apartment. Helen and Steve were extremely helpful but also very respectful of our need for privacy and family time. All the baby equipment we needed was provided.
The views at Alsagra are stunning and you are surrounded by beautiful countryside. The place is very peaceful but you are within easy driving distance of Perugia and lots of other charming hilltop towns. We would love to go back.Read moreLessMumsnetter KCDC

What a great place. We are a family of 4, our children are 2 years and 4 years old and they did not want to leave. the apartments have just about everything you need from plastic cups, plates, listeners for when you want to go late night swimming and leave the children asleep. The play areas were fab, with a train, slide and swings. It was so relaxing that we have booked again to go in 2010. The owners live closeby so if you have any problems they can help and the pizza making night was great - our kids have never eaten so much!!!

08-Jun-2009
Wonderful and great for kids. We spent two great weeks there and we had to bribe the children to leave. There were 2 play areas with swings, slides, trains and loads to do. The pool was heated so no need to worry if they will get cold. We had everything you need in the apartment, sterlisers, booster chairs, toys and the owners could not have been more helpful on where to advise you to go with children. We have already booked for 2010 as they seem to be full in 2009 and filling up quickly for next year. If you love Italy this is where to stay with your family.

"We stayed at Alsagra twice in the past year and…"
24-Mar-2009
We stayed at Alsagra twice in the past year and have loved it. There are three self catering apartments and it is a great place for children. As soon as we arrived George and Phoebe raced to the play areas and stayed on the train and slides all afternoon. I don't think they even remembered there was a great pool until we reminded them. They had so much choice on what to do that they were never bored. Helen and Steve the owners have two young children so fully understand what we needed. Everything was there and ready for us when we got there, cots, bed guards etc. It was the best weeks holiday in a child free environment that we had had for years.
We have planned to go back again they year and explore the area some more as there is so much we haven's seen yet. there was a meal ready for us on arrival which was fresh and meant we did not have to cook on the first day.Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.
