An amazing 'must visit once in your lifetime' place!!!!!!!! We went on holiday with 4 other families and so booked the whole of this beautiful 5 bedroomed 'Riad' hotel which is owned by a charming British couple - Mike and Lucie. It was cheaper than an impersonal hotel and no comparison with service level - quite incredible with its patio with cool pool; roof terrace for sunbathing and dining!
The young Moroccan hotel staff were quite simply amazing - going above and beyond the call of duty every day. We ate in the hotel on the second evening and after that we decided to eat in every night of our 5 night stay. The food was quite simply delicious and the cooks were more than happy to prepare simple western-style food for the kids. We arranged some babysitting with the lovely Karima who seemed to have endless patience.
Our rooms were perfect for families as they had beds that could be singles or doubles just by unzipping them-this meant we could change rooms for sleepovers and had all the kids in one room on one night! The hotel welcome kids when you book the whole hotel (5 family rooms/suites) but they cannot take tiny babies if you just book one room in case this disturbs other guests without children. Children over 7 or 8 are fine but must still be watched because of the pools and the steps.
The staff told us to make ourselves at home and they really meant it. We asked for hot chocolate at 12 midnight and it just appeared for all of us with little mini cakes! Our teenagers got lost at the local disco and the staff immediately went to look for them and brought them back within 20 minutes. We asked for directions to a lunchtime restaurant and we got escorted there by the guardian - Hassan It was my daughter's 12th birthday while we were there and somehow they knew and brought her a cake (without charging us!) and sang happy birthday to her! The lounge is full of games and dozens of DVDs suitable for all ages. Each room has a huge flat screen tv and dvd hidden away in the 'meditation mezzanines' (no-we didnt get time for any meditation but if you are without kids then this would be a great idea!!!!
The hotel is very central so it meant we could just walk out of the door and were practically in the souks and the tourist attractions including the big square.
We had kids of all ages and they all loved it. The heat was a bit much for the tiny ones but once in the air conditioned rooms we were fine. The teenagers were confident enough to go exploring by themselves and we even got the bonus of french language practice which we had not anticipated (as french is the second language in Morocco because it used to be a french colony). The ladies and teenage girls all had massages in our rooms-wonderful orange blossom aromatherapy oils!
We felt very safe and very well looked after. Highly recommend Marrakech and even more highly recommend Riad Cinnamon. We have already booked for next year. I think the website is www.marrakech-riad.co.uk but you can find it by googling riad cinnamon marrakech too.Read moreLessMumsnetter clairebudweizer
