Pelangi Beach Resort

Lovely, clean resort, nice pool. Food and drink expensive.
The rest of Langkawi is pretty boring unless you rent a car and go exploring yourself, town looks like once it was developed no money has gone on refurbishment.
If going to Malaysia, would recommend Penang and it's beach resorts, much bigger and more interesting town.

If you're thinking long haul then Langkawi is perfect - direct 12 hour overnight flights and short transfers: "we did it for February half-term and even for eight nights it's worth it to leave the cold behind." The hotel is "beautifully laid out" and the kids' club is "great" plus all the staff are so child-friendly it makes for a very relaxing atmosphere. The eight hour time difference is "not as bad as it sounds - it just means everyone gets a lie in and the kids stay up late." The lovely beach, waterslides and swim up bar make this "a piece of paradise."

Excellent value for money, maneagable 12 hour flight. food isn't as good as in thailand, but better than Spain. Well laid out hotel complex, great pool and beach side rooms are hard to fault.
