"Quite simply the best chalet I've ever stayed in…"
La Marquise is a beautiful, spacious and luxurious chalet a couple of minutes walk from the slopes of Sainte Foy. It has fine views out to the mountains, a spectacular fireplace, a large balcony with easy chairs and hot tub, a sauna, a steam room and a massage room. The bedrooms are roomier than any chalet I've stayed in with TVs on the walls and beds as comfortable as those in the best hotels, plus the bathrooms are to die for.
The food is excellent and plentiful, with fantastic cooked breakfasts, afternoon tea and cakes, pre-dinner canapes followed by four courses. In fact, your main worry will be how to ski enough to burn off the extra calories. Kids' tea is equally high quality and freshly made.
Sainte Foy is a hidden gem of a resort. Small, picturesque and friendly; and with all the runs leading down to the same spot it's perfect for beginners and for teens and pre-teens to explore in groups without parents, as you know they'll end up in one place. For experts there's also plentiful off-piste area, although you're safest to go in Jan and Feb to be sure of snow outside of the runs, as the resort's not so high. On the plus side you're only about twenty minutes from Les Arcs and Val d'Isere, so even in a really bad snow year you're close to some of the highest resorts in Europe.
Top tip - prolong your day's skiing by stopping off at the Restaurant Les Marquises for a sundowner and to admire the spectacular view on your last run down.
The chalet staff were helpful and charming - knowing just how much to be around and when to melt away. They were always keen to lend a hand - popping up to help kids with ski boots and to search for missing gloves at crucial times.
There's a friendly creche for wee ones as well as stair-gates, highchairs and everything else you'll need.
This is a luxury holiday and the prices reflect it, but if you can muster the cash, then go. You won't regret it although, take note, other chalets will pale in comparison. In the words of James (Sit Down) "If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor."
Nb if you fancy the Alps in the Summer, it's available then too at a much reduced cost.Read moreLess

"A superb family ski chalet…"
From the moment we arrived at La Marquise chalet, I knew we'd have a lovely time... in fact the whole experience exceeded our expectations! The staff were fantastic, nothing was too much of an ask and the food was excellent. We were all delighted with the canapes, meals and wine choices available during our stay. We had 5 children in our group and as parents we were delighted that they were offered "proper meals" as opposed to pasta, mince or fish fingers which is so often the case in chalets. We'd never been to Sainte Foy before and were surprised that we'd never heard of it before, considering it's so family friendly. Our two littlest ones had never skied before, so we booked lessons for them in the morning then used Premiere Neige's creche in the afternoons. I have to say that there's not one part of the childcare provided that I would change. The nannies were lovely and really put us at ease, as I normally find it hard to leave our kids. Really kind girls in the creche and they even picked the kids up from ski school. Happy kids meant for happy parents. We've already booked our hol for next year too as we can't imagine skiing anywhere else now!Read moreLess
