This was a newly-opened hotel for winter 2010-11, built very close to the Grands Vans chair and ski school area, so couldn't be bettered for convenience. However, the resort is not ideal for adult complete beginners, as there are only 3 accessible greens before you have to be ready to tackle the blues up the mountain. For intermediate skiers the terrain is superb, as most runs are blues or easy reds. Our son had a great time at ski kindergarten, however, and really enjoyed the skiing. The self-catering apartment was a disappointment - fittings had been skimped on (no coat hooks anywhere, a too-large dining table crammed in, no oven), and a lethal curving concrete stair linked one bedroom to the rest of the apartment - endlessly fascinating to our toddler, cause of many heart attacks for us. However the swimming pool was great, even if the changing area is too small & poorly designed, and overall it was clean, and the staff were helpful, despite being understaffed at check-in and out. Flaine is a great resort, though.
