Chalet Portes de Soleil

We had a fantastic holiday here.

The childcare (probably our top priority after problems in the past) was excellent. The nannies come into the chalet, which seems to work more smoothly than dropping the kids off at a creche. The nannies themselves were fantastic - cheerful, professional, enthusiastic, sensitive, and we were completely confident leaving the kids with them. The range of activities they got up to was great, enough flexibility to repeat the especially popular ones (such as going on the petit train that runs around the resort), and some "chill-out" time where it was needed too.

We loved the fact that we could arrange our own ski lessons for our son and the nannies would take him there and collect him afterwards. It meant that we weren't stuck with a "one-size fits all" set of group lessons (which didn't work out for us the previous year). Similarly if we asked to meet in certain location so we could take our son out skiing ourselves, the nannies were always there in good time, never rushed or flustered. The nanny - children ratio was also very good, much higher than the minimum required.

Every single member of Ski Famille staff that we encountered (from initial enquiry, to booking, to being in the resort) was great - we can find only positive terms for them - friendly, relaxed, cheerful, professional, knowledgeable. We had a lovely chalet host, always on time, providing yummy cakes and meals. The accommodation itself was good and clean, adequate room sizes with good storage space, perhaps slightly on the basic side (it's not en-suite) but this was evident from the website before we booked. It was nicely located in the town.

Skiing-wise we very much liked the resort - there are some gentle runs to progress to for beginners, some flattering red runs that we enjoyed, and a number of bumpy unprepared blacks if you're that way inclined. The town was prettier than any other French resort I've been in, with lots of restaurants and a number of other shops, a cute church, and an ice rink.

All in all probably the best ski holiday we've ever had, certainly the best post-kids. We would recommend this resort and we will definitely use Ski Famille again.
