"Mumsnet was invited to stay at Bowood House, so I…"
Mumsnet was invited to stay at Bowood House, so I popped over to Wiltshire with DH for a Saturday evening away from the kids!
The setting of the hotel is beautiful - after driving through chocolate box Wiltshire villages, you arrive at a very grand looking entrance, and the hotel is at the end of a lovely long drive.
The hotel itself is modern, but not sprawling, and it's beautifully decorated. Opposite reception is a lovely sitting room and the library is really cosy - especially with a fire in the evening.
The bedrooms are great - really comfy beds and lovely bathrooms - everything you could need. We were really keen to try Bowood because of the pool and spa, which were fab. The pool has amazing floor to ceiling windows which means you get great views as you're relaxing, (and entertaining views of people struggling with one of the golf holes) having a swim while the sun set was really lovely. The jacuzzi, sauna and steam room were all brilliant - there's also an aromatherapy shower which I've never seen before, but was fun. I had a mini facial which was really relaxing and didn't result in the usual breakout I have after a facial!
We ate in the main restaurant for dinner and breakfast and the food at both was excellent. The ingredients and cooking were really high quality and I loved being able to order what I wanted for breakfast rather than having a luke warm buffet. The staff were always really friendly, and happy to help with any requests, but service didn't always live up to the quality of food and could be a bit slow and confused.
In the morning we collected a map and went for a great walk around the grounds (they have wellies if muddy)- the stately home and gardens were closed for winter (apparently are lovely) - but the grounds were great to explore.
All in all a really relaxing stay.Read moreLess
