"We took our three DC's 1, 3 and 6 to"
26-Oct-2010
We took our three DC's 1, 3 and 6 to Devon for the weekend and stayed at The Retreat. We didn't arrive until 8.30pm but our host, Helen, was welcoming and friendly.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that our hosts had gone over and above the call of duty to make this a home from home.
The travel cot was up and ready, there was a highchair, toys and DVD's for the children to play with, there was even washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets... Fantastic! Especially when you are only away for the weekend and don't want to have to buy all of that stuff and lug it home.
The nicest bit was the lovely cream tea on arrival, 4 fresh scones, clotted cream and Jam, just what you need after a two hour drive and with three very tired hungry children. The cottage was immaculate.
On Saturday we drove for about half an hour to a farm/theme park called The Big Sheep, it had loads of things for the children to do within a Halloween theme, carve a pumpkin, have their faces painted, soft play, tractor rides and sheep racing. It was very expensive, but enjoyable as the weather was pretty grim.
Back to the cottage in the evening and the kids went to bed exhausted, DH an I lit the fire (lovely) and enjoyed a glass of vino.
Really nice mini break, such a shame that we couldn't have stayed for a week. The area was right on the Moors and was so beautiful and quiet that we would love to go back for longer.Read moreLessMumsnetter rebeccamumsnet
