"We took a 4 night holiday here last October half…"
We took a 4 night holiday here last October half term. WE HAD THE BEST TIME !!!!! Thats why we have booked the same week for this year. Hubby, myself and 2 boys, 5 & 6 yrs. Our room was perfect, clean, tidy, bright and comfortable. Boys had a separate room with bunk beds, set of draws and tv. Our bed was soooo comfortable, plenty of wardrobe space and good size bathroom. Our 2 boys attended the kidszone times, so we had 2 hours during the morning and 3/4 hours each evening to ourselves, I read a whole book during our 4 days, which is unheard of on holiday. Boys did lots of great activities, they were not just put in a room of toys and left to it, they made at least 1 thing each day, and the child care staff were professional and very nice! We have lived in the middle east for a few years and have been lucky enough to have eaten in some amazing restaurants, the food at the Hotel was some of the best we have every had! Yes its not a cheap holiday, but if you can afford it, or save for it, this is an amazing family holiday. We did tons of things together as a family and all got some valuable time to ourselves.Read moreLess

fantastic location, right on the huge expanse of sand that is Watergate Bay, perfect for active families. They have been upgrading the hotel over the last couple of years, and some of the rooms have needed it, but they are all looking pretty good now. nice that some of them have separate (small) rooms for the kids so you don't all have to go to bed at the same time. food is good, altho for some reason, breakfast doesn't match the evening meals standards. friendly staff and great laid back atmosphere. recommended.Read moreLess

"We recently spent 2 nights at Watergate bay with 2…"
We recently spent 2 nights at Watergate bay with 2 children, aged 3 & 8. Firstly our room was fantastic, as the kids had bunkbeds behind their own bedroom door (which even had their own TV in it!).
Needless to say the kids were very pleased and it meant that we didn't have to all go to bed at the same time.
On the first night there we ate in the beach hut, right on Watergate Bay. The service was fantastic but the atmosphere was wonderfully laid back. The food was great, we tried the fish - caught fresh that day. Delicious.
Back in the hotel we made the most of the swimming pool and showed both kids around the kids clubs. They also have a games room, where older kids can play computer games. This was a huge hit with my eldest DS.
After a blustery but great day on the beach, we made the most of the weather by having a drink in the bar, that overlooks the beach. It's a great spot to lose a few hours and next to it there's an outdoor play area for the kids.
In the evening we made use of the kids tea at 5pm and then both boys tried the kids club from 6:30 - 9pm so my DH and I could have a meal in the Brassiere.
The meal was fantastic and by the time we came back together at 9pm we were all happy and relaxed.
All in all the hotel and the staff really did everything they could to make sure everyone is catered for. They've also got plans in place for an extensive upgrade of the pool, spa and entrance area - due for completion in Sep.Read moreLess

We have stayed here twice, both times in school holidays. The hotel is well appointed, staff very friendly and helpful, and the restaurant food is just great. The family rooms - even the cheapest - are really nice, with separate sleeping area for kids with their own TV! Fab to be in walking distance of the beach. Loads to do in the area. Evening creche, in a dedicated facility, is totally brilliant, caring staff keep the children busy with lovely activites. Only downside is that the indoor pool is very small and a bit "tired", and could do with an overhaul. It's not cheap at Watergate bay, but you get a pretty good deal for your money, in my opinion. Overall, I recommend this hotel.Read moreLess

My husband and I have visited the hotel a number of times (probably c.8)as a couple and with our daughter who is now 2 years. We love the informality and also quality accommodation, food and service. However we need somewhere similar but different to go. Can anyone recommend somewhere else of a similar standard and facilities for young children. Particularly baby listening and good food??Read moreLess
"The exterior of this beachfront hotel may be decidedly Edwardian,…"
The exterior of this beachfront hotel may be decidedly Edwardian, but the attitude is utterly 21st century. As part of the larger Watergate Bay complex - which includes the Beach Hut restaurant, the Watergate Extreme Sports Academy and Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant, the hotel neatly straddles both the family and youth markets. It's a good sign of a relaxed hotel when the entrance hallway is littered with sandy wellington boots of all sizes.
Our bedroom here (a large superior) had a fabulous view over the bay, a roll-top bath in the room and acres of space for the pull-out bed for our 7-yr-old daughter. It looked as though it had only recently been updated, with immaculate modern fittings, although for the size of the room the bathroom sink was on the small size and we lost count of the amount of times our daughter stubbed her toe on the small step between bathroom and bedroom! Family facilities also include a kitchen with microwave and fridge and baby listening service in the evenings.
Staff here all look like young surfer dudes - and are helpful and super-friendly. We particularly liked those in the well-appointed kids' club who came up with loads of fun activities to keep kids occupied. There's a secure playground attached to the playroom with bikes and scooters and a large pirate ship to clamber over, when the weather's good. In the evenings there's a supervised session between 6.30pm and 9.30pm for parents who want some time to themselves.
By far and away the key attraction at Watergate is the surf. Depending on how old your kids are, they can try everything from boogie boarding to kite-surfing . This year a brand-new activity- Duallies - allows parents and children to boogie board together. I have to admit we wimped out and spent a lot of time in the indoor pool (there's also an outdoor one open during the summer season).
As it was half-term, the hotel had laid on extra activities for kids with everything from treasure hunts on the beach, to children's entertainers - the night we were there they had a show with snakes and tarantulas which thrilled the older kids.
We didn't get an opportunity to eat in the hotel's brasserie, with the exception of breakfast, but can highly recommend a family night out at the Beach Hut. It's got a really nice relaxed vibe and the food is of a very high standard. Kids get their own healthy menu - as for grown-ups, we can recommend the cheese fondue and crab linguini. Fifteen also looked nice when we popped in for a quick drink - but only accepts kids under 7 for breakfast and lunch.
Overall - a fun and funky hotel - with loads for active kids to do in a splendid beachside location.Read moreLess
"You may be trying to decide between here and the…"
You may be trying to decide between here and the 'Bed Steps'. Choose Watergate. Bed Steps is like a posh Novotel with good kids stuff - serviceable but a little soulless.
Watergate had great rooms. We had a family room, with a room for our 6 and 4 year old sleeping in bunk beds. Room was well laid out and well furnished - flat screen tv's in both rooms, iPod alarm clock, free wi-fi...
It's location is right on the beach - sitting on the terrace watching the surfers with a pint of Skinners while the kids were in the 'kids zone' was genius.
The Kids Zone is a superbly put together and staffed nursery. The evening had activities allowing mum and dad to have dinner knowing that the kids were being well entertained.
My 6 year old fell in love with the table football and table tennis table when it showered and the beach was a bit soggy.
Food in Living Space was good everyday food and the kids menu fresh and healthy. Our favourite was the Beach Hut for that right on the beach vibe and good food. The most disappointing was the Brasserie. We also ate at Fifteen which is above the beach hut. In the evening it's a tasting menu. Having eaten in the Old Street one a few times, i think the food was better in Cornwall.
All the eating spaces had baby listening, even Fifteen which is a hundred yards away from the main hotel. When i had to run back to investigate murmurings, they held our order in the kitchen so it didn't sit on the table.
The extreme academy is a plus if you feel like aching for a few days afterwards.
Overall, can't fault it and we are planning our longer trip for next summer already.Read moreLess

We stayed at watergate bay in February and still enjoyed our stay. At the time our daughter was only 10 months. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, the beautiful sunsets. The views are totally stunning. There is high tea for children, which is a nice touch.
We didn't particularly like the restaurant, as the food wasn't all that.... but Jamie Olivers Fifteen restaurant is within the resort.Read moreLess

We loved this place! Admittedly the weather was great, but the beach is fabulous and the pools and facilities for children are great. Our daughter had high tea at 5ish, then went to bed and we had some quality time together - something that has been in short supply! The food was top quality. It is pricey though if you are going in high season.Read moreLess

Fantastic hotel. Excellent standard of accommodation. Food is excellent. Children's food very healthy- no junk like usually offered to kids!! Set right on the beach with indoor and outdoor pools. Various sportsalso available. Adults can enjoy eve meal as free baby listening offered or a free kids club runs in the eves. Children are also welcome in the restaurant. Offers room service and you don't feel crowded by other peoples children unlike other family hotels where kids are everywhere!! We have 3 children aged 4yrs 2yrs and 3mths and all ages are well catered for. Cots/bed rails provided. There is a parents kitchen with a fridge/ microwave and sink so you can prepare bottles/milk etc. We are booking for next year. Better than sands and bedruthen steps!!Read moreLess
