"Not at all up to the standard of the other…"
09-Sep-2010
Not at all up to the standard of the other hotels in the group. We were very disappointed and left after one night. Particular gripes - the boiling hot towel radiator in the bathroom that couldn't be switched off, the dirty communal areas, the tired decor.

We got the cheapest room with DB&B during midweek and we were very impressed with the value for money, the bedroom, whilst not spacious, had a huge comfortable double bed, a balcony and enough room for a cot (which was there on arrival). The food was fantastic with coffee and chocolates in front of the fire afterwards. Our LO was happy in the creche and enjoyed his first swim in the heated indoor pool. I can see why people who paid the top rate would be disgruntled at the shabby chic of the hotel but for us bargain hunters at the lower end I indeed thought it was a bargain.

the price tag is definitely luxurious, the hotel itself less so and could do with a revamp, in particular the play areas are looking a bit tired. however, the staff are very friendly and laid back and the restaurant is great- so altogether a good weekend option if money is not an issue!

Well-thought out with a nice creche space, good pool and great location. Food was nice and staff were relaxed. The only downside for me was a large indoor play hall were there were one or two outdoor toys but not enough and there was sometimes a bit of scrabble for stuff. But spending

Good windswept location. Shabby/chic manor house with excellent service, lots of kiddy stuff to keep them entertained both inside and out. Lovely food/wine in evening in a nice spacious restaurant.
We stayed in a coachhouse attached to main house. Very spacious with an upstairs huge double bed and sitting area and downstairs twin bedroom and sitting room (bit gloomy).
Lovely baby sitter who sat up and watched dvds with our children (they adored her) and also worked in the creche during the day.Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

We too were very disappointed and shocked by the facilities - most of which were sub municipal rather than luxury. To date I have written to complain twice and have had no response. The hotel itself was nice, food was very good, but the 'sittings' for dinner reservations proved very stressful when trying to get kids to bed. Overall, very expensive and not what the brochure implies.

"The worst holiday I have ever had. The cot provided…"
20-Jul-2007
The worst holiday I have ever had. The cot provided for my daughter was falling apart and the mattress stank. The bathroom was filthy, the room itself was ok. However the rest of the hotel was just shabby. And the luxury spa was laughable, my massage was in a clutered back room that looked more like a store cupboard. Their brochure looks amazing but how they can get away with such blatant flase adevrtising is beyond me. This place is not in anyway shape or form a luxurious break. They didn;t have roomservice, the staff didn't know what they were doing, the girl on reception was more interested in talking to her friend on her mobile than checking us in. It was so awfukl that we left halfway through our holiday and drove all the way to Hotel du Vin in Bristol where we were met by proffessional staff, a safe and clean cot and baby toiletries. We went from Hell to Heaven.

Fabulous location, slightly shabby country house hotel. Kids loved it, wonderful facilities for them. Don't go expecting to be pampered but go for a lovely family time together. Food great, room lovely, leisure facilities in need of make over, service slightly hit and miss.

Weather was dreadful so we made good use of the facilities on offer. The food was heaven, lovely candlelit evening meals, divine breakfasts and yummy lunches. Our room was in the main house, was a good size and had a large en suite bathroom attached - our room all looked very fresh so I think must have been recently refurbished. The rest of the hotel was a strange mixture of shabby chic and some places were decidely shitty rather than shabby chic! I quite liked the jumble of antiques and colonial furniture and decor in the main house but some of the other areas are overdue an overhaul. When it rained the swimming pool complex had ominous brown bulges in the ceiling from the water collecting above and the water broke through in about 5 places in the games hall. The sight of buckets collecting the rain is not very 4 star!! Having said all that we had a great stay and we'll definately be back.
