"GIGGLE YOUR WAY ROUND THE CITY CENTRE…"
With over one hundred comedy street shows for free, its hard to come up with any reason not to enjoy this brilliant wee festival. All the shows on offer take place within the city centre pedestrian zone, so we started our day in Cornmarket at midday. The first offering was Bash Street Theatre’s The Strongman!, a show based on Charlie Chaplin’s film The Circus: this was fascinating and quite restful to watch. I had with me my neices and nephew aged 14, 12 and 8 respectively and my daughter who is 17. We all sat on little bit of carpet in the sunshine to watch. There were about 150 people in the audience, some of whom were just out shopping and got drawn into see what what going on.After the show we moved to another little corner of Belfast to see the next show. This time we were in the sheltered space of st. Annes Square to see Stickleback Plasticus, a crazy dancing couple like a geriatric Stricly Come Dancing gone wrong. This show particularly appealed to my neices who roared with laughter throughout at the silliness! nect up was a spectaular juggler who invited my nephew up to take part in a precarious balancing act:terrific fun!
Running alongside the street theatre is The Festival of Foods offering terrific discounts on local eateries at great discounts during the Fools festival. We plumped for a big slice of woodfired pizza from Little Wing eaten in the sunshine.
The whole day out was atremendous success, so much so that we reapeted it on the Bank holiday Monday! The main thing is that this is all free and absolutely for everyone.Cant wait for this years Festival of Fools!Read moreLess
