Family-friendly yoga holiday with Bea Fritzsching, Quinta Mimosa, Portugal.
I went on this week-long yoga holiday in Portugal last year, which welcomes families with children of all ages, even babies, and provides babysitting so the parents can do the yoga classes. It's at the Quinta Mimosa retreat centre, which is very beautiful with huge lush grounds, and has several swimming pools, so they have a pool for the kids to splash around in, and one for adults only. You stay in pretty farmhouses - we took an en-suite room. Vegetarian meals are provided, and are delicious, everyone eats around a big table, but there are also self-catering facilities which is handy if you need to do something extra for the kids between meals.
It's run by Bea Fritzsching, a mum and an excellent yoga teacher, who decided to make a yoga holiday where you could bring the kids along. I'm not very experienced at yoga but didn't feel intimidated, even with some very bendy types there - Bea made the classes work for everyone. There's yoga morning and evening and plenty of free time in between when you can go to the beach or on a day trip, or have a massage - and the massages are heavenly! It was a relaxed schedule, but I felt much fitter and healthier by the end of the week.
My 10 year old daughter joined in with some of the classes. When it got too difficult, her and her friend disappeared to the pool! The food was lovely and Wendy the chef always made a special effort to not only please the parents but the kids too. It was a great way to have a break with the family, and I've been recommending it to all my friends with small children. I'm thinking of going again this year, it's the first week of August.Read moreLess
