"Don't be frightened off by the programme of events; this…"
Don't be frightened off by the programme of events; this retreat really is bliss for new mums and accompanying babies up to 18 months. You get a weekend in a lush hotel room (in a 12th century organic hotel in a pastoral setting on the Welsh borders) with a goodie bag of lovely lentil-weavery products to enjoy in your ensuite bathroom; many very delicious organic and seasonal meals (that you would never guess were full of sprouts and quinoa!) and endless smoothies.
There is also lots of yoga to be had (but no one scrutinising your technique/muffin top/less than hot yoga-wear); a truly marvelous massage and educational sessions on things like craniosacral therapy and nutrition.
You can leave your baby in the informal creche, hang out with your baby in the creche or bring your baby to meals and sessions with you. You can also book extra treatments (craniosacral therapy, more massage, Jungian therapy...), or just loll about between sessions in the jungly hotel grounds or by one of the vast fireplaces chatting to the other mums (there are usually ten in all) and the organisers.
What is really special about Mamaheaven is that it is not some kind of spa weekend designed to give you a break from your new baby/chronic sleep deprivation, but a relaxing way of immersing yourself in new motherhood which leaves you with some tips and techniques to take away with you. On the weekend I attended there was a good mix of first-time mums and those of us who had gleefully left older children with their dads. And you really don't have to be a hardcore lentilweaver to enjoy it, honest.Read moreLess
