"We went to Tuscany for the first time last summer…"
We went to Tuscany for the first time last summer with our 2 kids aged 7 and 9, and I wanted them to discover how fantastic real Italian food and cooking are. I found Sapori e Saperi Adventures, which seemed to offer exactly what I was looking for - cookery lessons, tours of local food producers, time off in a Go Ape style adventure park, and lots of insider knowledge of the area. I wasn't wrong! We booked four days with the owner, Heather Jarman, and she gave us a wonderful time, taking us round local cheese, honey and sausage producers, to several fabulous evening festas in local villages, and to some fantastic restaurants, not to mention the legendary Mechanical Cow, which became a favourite evening trip for the kids. In addition we learnt a huge amount about the area from her, and her fluent Italian was also invaluable to our sadly monoglot family! James (7) and Rosa (9) loved her, and after a cooking lesson with the lovely Alessandra, are now accomplished makers of pasta and chocolate tart. Most happily, James, who was a rather picky eater, was inspired to try some new things, and has clearly begun to rethink his attitude to food in general. He is still making his own pasta with great relish 9 months after coming home. I can't recommend Heather enough - anyone who even slightly likes Italian food and wants a rewarding holiday treat should try her out!Read moreLess
